I. Somebody should send a tape of NBC's Sunday Night Cowboys-Packers game to ESPN for review. I can't remember a single forced point and no endless monologues. NBC gave us...a football broadcast.

II. If ESPN, home of the Cowboys-Eagles last Monday, is serious about molding Ron Jaworski into the next John Madden, the World Wide Leader has to take one giant point into consideration: Madden doesn't work in a three-man booth.

III. As long as we're talking numbers: I don't get NBC's Football Night in America studio show. It reminds of a three-ring circus. Too many performers, too many combos and too many guys who never played the game.

IV. I can't look at NBC's Keith Olbermann without thinking of MSNBC's Keith Olbermann.

V. John Madden has taken to praising Jason Witten just as he used to praise Larry Allen. "He is a special player...He does everything a tight end has ever done in this game."

VI. Next member of Madden's Admiration Society: Marion Barber. Although DeMarcus Ware is a prime candidate if Madden decides to go for a defender.

VII. Memo to self: Check with Madden this week to see if the media-shy Barber talks to him.

VIII. Most random moment: Al Michaels citing comedian Don Rickles for winning the first Emmy of his career over on ABC. I'm guessing Michaels and Rickles are gin rummy buddies at some tony Los Angeles country club.

IX. It's good to see a network can fit down-and-distance into its score and time graphic.

X. I don't get the horse trailer.

Thank you.

Yeah, the lack of a down and distance graphic is getting annoying as hell. I don't know why some of the networks have decided to do away with it.

Speaking of sports: Kornheiser is no Cosell

I want to like Tony Kornheiser's work. Really. But somebody at ESPN needs to sit him down and tell him stuff like this just doesn't work. Watch Ron Jaworski near the end of this filibuster, You know what he's thinking: "WWMD here?"

Here's what I think John Madden would do: He'd check the anti-fungal he hawks to see if it eliminates this kind of irritant..

Thanks to the folks at Awful Announcing for the clip.

Jaworski's over the top homerism for the Eagles is hard to listen to, for me anyway.

It's understandable why Aikman seems to go a bit overboard sometimes in criticizing the Cowboys, or at least not being as flattering as fans think he should be. If he was a total homer the way Jaworski is, non-Cowboy fans wouldn't be able to stand him.

As it is, Aikman is undeniably one of the best, and Jaws isn't.

You know I thought it was just me but this season I have been looking for it and they show it for a few seconds and do away with it. Thought I was losing it as I did not remember them doing that before.

I like Ron. He goes off on Eagles stuff a little to much but that's ok. I don't hold that against him. He is able to be pretty complimentary and objective about the Cowboys as well so that works for me.

For the longest time, I couldn't find it at all... I kept screaming for them to put it up, because Gawd knows half the time the discussion isn't even about the game.

Then sometimes I noticed they use that cheesy graphic that makes it look like it's on the field. I don't like that graphic to start with. Why not just put it up next to the score like TV has done forever?

Double thank you for mentioning this. How hard can it be.:bang2:

Right! Aikman (and Darrel Johnston) learned how to become professional announcers, while ESPN just wants former jocks to embellish ESPN. How many people did ESPN have announcing or pregame or sideline or what.

Ditka in the studio with 4 others (5)
Emmitt on the sideline with 2 others (3)
Jaws in the booth with 2 others (3)
Michelle on the sideline with 1 other (2)

Thirteen people, most of whom weren't necessary. Michelle would have been enough for me.
