We are an unknown commodity at CB. Carr does have some leverage.

I think the NFL should model the NBA as far as contracts. That would certainly be a downward force on the player salaries. I do see why they don't though, A football player is just one hit away in the NFL. Maybe guarantees that don't count against the cap if the player is cut is the best way to protect the team and the players?

Carr's leverage decreases by the day.

Claiborne is looking like he is going to be healthy, and shouldn't be a terrible option as 3rd corner.

The Cowboys can certainly roll with Scandrick - Jones - Claiborne - Patmon/White.

No team would or should consider that a problem.

Carr is a luxury at this point.

Wouldnt call Carr a luxury when Mo has the history he has, Jones (while the ceiling is high) is an unknown, Patmon/White as well.

Probably more true than my post. But, outside of Scan, we are young and unproven (or poor history).. I'd not be willing to gamble with Mo as well. Jones is totally unproven and could get nicknamed Toast before the end of the year.

Still, at his cost, I'd still be looking around on the FA market for cheaper alternatives that could provide close to the same skills.

Look across the league, and you see the same thing.

Mo has a history? He has missed some games as a starter, as a 3rd corner at least it reduces his snaps.

Jones like most first round draft picks are first day starters. That's the nature of the business.

Carr has to worry all the way up to September. If he takes a pay cut he can still guarantee 4-5 million this year by taking a pay cut and also make a team option at the beginning of free agency next year to avoid this situation.

I admit I see things totally differently than GB... I do not see Carr as a "luxury", nor do I see the position as a strength.

Without Carr, you have 1 proven guy (Scandrick) and that isn't nearly enough.

That's a valid point about September.

But that's a two-way street. IF Carr shows "average" or better performance at CB, the Cowboys push him out the door.

I'd rather have Hardy back next year than have Carr this year. Let's put it that way.

I agree
Don't see anyway someone could consider him a luxury with a roster of one proven cb, one that can't stay healthy and a rookie and no depth

13.8 million

And that's a lot of money.

But, if he's released after this season, his "dead money" is $7.4 mil, which would give a positive difference of $6.4 mil, which would enable the Cowboy to go out and get a better CB within that salary window– which I think is very doable.

If he is released this season it saves 8 million this year and another 6 million next year. That 8 million can go a long way towards re-signing Dez or Hardy next year, and as you said that 6 million can go a long way towards signing a new cornerback in free agency. Saves another 13 million in 2017.

As I said, he is a luxury, one that I don't think we can afford.
