Pacman plans to sue ESPN

Adam Jones is denying an ESPN report that he arranged for someone to shoot at three men outside a Atlanta night club.

In fact an angry Jones said he's planning legal action against the network.

"It will be a lawsuit in a week against ESPN," Jones said. "That's stupid. It's so stupid I have no more comments."

This might be the last time we talk about Pacman here on the blog until tomorrow when he continue our report cards with a look at the secondary.

It is going to be interesting to see if anyone is going to be willing to pick up Pacman or if his NFL days are now done

That is likely what he's planning on suing for - defamation.

He won't win.

That is not definitely true. Keep in mind Adam Jones has only been to jail for misdemeanors, not criminal acts or murder. If it can be proven that he was cut based upon the report, he may very well win a defamation of character case.

That does not exactly answer the question I asked. Do you think some other NFL team knowing the situation Pacman is in will be willing to sign him?

Is it possible to defame his character?

To quote Winston Wolfe:

Just because you are a character doesn't mean you have character.

He doesn't need to.

All he needs is a small blurb-type retraction and he will play again.

In fact, if it turns out that this was nothing but a lot of hot air and it falls to the floor as a non-issue, I could see Jerry ponying back up for Pacman.

I doubt the Cowboys cut Pacman simply because of ESPN's report. There had to be something more to this investigation - some new information - because the Cowboys knew of Pacman's "involvement" in the Atlanta case prior to trading for him.

Second, it is VERY difficult for a celebrity to win a libel/slander suit. True, it's not impossible, but very difficult. The standard of proof is much greater for celebrities vs. averge Joes.

Third, all ESPN would have to "prove" was that it believed the information it received about Pacman's involvement was credible and did it perform the necessary due diligence in trying to determine if the information was valid. The fact that Pacman is a celebrity and is tied to this situation makes ESPN's job easier.

Please don't say that. Leave him alone Jerry. Let him be someone else's headache.

I doubt it.

Think about this for a moment:

The Cowboys knew about this situation, minus Jones' involvement.

The Cowboys find out something more about an investigation that's already pending.

Even if Pacman is exonerated, why would they resign him? So they can go through this back-and-forth with Pacman again?

I think this was the Cowboys way of cutting ties with Pacman. He's just not worth the trouble. Even if Pacman is found "innocent" of this latest revelation, he won't be wearing a Cowboys uniform. I think the Cowboys are finally washing their hands of him.

You know its true.

I'd go so far as to say that its all part of the plan. Jerry can't risk taking any negative heat from Pacman this offseason. 6+ months of good behavior is nearly impossible for this guy.

Jerry cuts him loose, takes the good press for doing so and tells Pac that he gets another year if he can keep his nose clean.

What option does Pac have? NONE. He has no option at all. If he screws up, hes done. If something comes from this latest stuff, Pac is done for good. And even if he keeps his act straight who is going to give him a shot knowing he could slip and be gone at any second.

I'll tell you who. Only Jerry Jones. Jerry knows that hes the only guy that will take on Pacman.

So he does the weak parent thing and grounds him with a grin before finally opening the bedroom door with a smile and a plate of brownies to make amends.

John Clayton actually reported, when they were talking to him about Dallas cutting him, that it was possible, and he wouldn't be surprised, if the Cowboys cameback to resign him at a later date for whatever reason.

I could see a place where Jerry would resign him but at this point I don't think he will. Even if he's cleared, and it turns out this story ESPN is about to do has no credibility at all, I just think Jerry is going to stay away from him at this point.

My bad, I guess. But if you look at your post, it's a statement, not a question.

it is funny...but guess what. As stupid as Adam Jones is, if this is a contrived story I hope he wins.

Doesn't matter if Jerry knew about the situation. Its being played like he didn't.

As long as there is an impression in people's minds that Jerry didn't know, him knowing is irrelevant.
