Reports: Cowboys don't allow Rod Marinelli to leave; is Monte Kiffin going to take fall?

Rod Marinelli will stay with the Cowboys, for now.

After reports linked Marinelli as Tampa Bay's first choice as defensive coordinator, the Buccaneers ended up hiring former Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier.

Frazier confirmed via text to reporters that he was headed to Tampa on Friday night.

Marinelli remains under contract through 2014. The Cowboys would have had to give him permission to seek another job.

The Tampa Bay Times and NFL Network reported: Dallas had no intention of letting Marinelli go to Tampa Bay. As of Friday afternoon, the Bucs had not formally requested an interview.

Does that mean Marinelli will be promoted to defensive coordinator with the Cowboys?

Interesting. So it looks like the Cowboys didn't have to blackball the Bucs anyway; they never even formally requested an interview with Marinelli...

Now I guess the question is, does Marinelli become our DC, or does Monte hang around for another year?

This is great news. We bring back everything intact. We are sure to break through the 8-8 rut now.

If you can't see the advantages to continuity and the clear pipeline from head coach to the owner without a pesky personnel guru in the way, you're being unreasonable.

No way in hell is Jerry going to pay another coach. He'd rather sacrifice another season then shell out another contract that will be broken next year once Garrett is fired.

Everyone here is a essentially on a one-year deal in 2014.

A great recipe for success.

He would also have a tough time filling any of the vacancies with a lame duck coach.

Might as well be this way.

interesting to see what the Bucs are doing. According to the article.

"The Bucs appear to be zeroing in on Kansas City Chiefs director of player personnel Chris Ballard to be their next general manager. Ballard worked in the Bears' front office when Smith was head coach before joining the Chiefs this season."

seems kind of backward. Usually you hire a new GM and they bring in a head coach.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Cowboys were in on this game? Holding our GM accountable and looking for a new one when the results weren't there?

It'd almost give a fan a legitimate reason to hope.

The Chiefs did this hiring Reid on January 4 and then bringing in GM John Dorsey. Seemed to work out okay for them.

I am just jealous they are actually getting GM who can be accountable for personnel.

I would say that the owner in these situations took a pretty direct role by hiring people in this order. I suspect that there are more meddling owners than just Jerry but he is so proud of it that he advertises it.
