One year after he was identified as a player on the verge of a breakthrough by Tony Romo of all people, Tyrone Crawford continues to attract interest from outsiders intrigued by his potential.
The website ProFootballFocus.com recently billed the defensive tackle a “secret superstar.”
And Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, who is not prone to hyperbole, said that the “sky is the limit” for Crawford.
“He’s one of those players on the team that really kind of sets the pace for everyone,” Garrett gushed. “He’s a great practice player, he plays hard in the games, and I think he’s one of those guys that you point to as a coach and say, ‘Play the way he plays.’”
That’s lofty praise for a 6-4, 285-pound defensive lineman who didn’t record his first sack until his 27th game and has only three to his credit since entering the league as a third-round draft pick in 2012.
But many who have studied his body of work, conducted an honest assessment of his statistics and understand the circumstances he has faced believe the 25-year-old is deserving of it.
“If he puts it together and keeps working at his craft, you could see him being one of the better players at his position in the league,” defensive tackle Nick Hayden said. “I’m excited to see what his future holds.”
