SportsDayDFW.com columnist Kevin Sherrington hosted a chat Wednesday to talk all things sports. Here are some of the highlights:

Question: I think this is the Dallas Cowboys "year", what do you think?

Cowboys: Not sure if it's just a year, is it? But I agree, they should be contenders. It'll depend on this: No major injuries to key players such as Romo, Tyron Smith, Dez, Crawford, etc. No more than six-game suspension for Greg Hardy. A rush supplied by Lawrence or Gregory. Byron Jones starting at CB and holding his own. And a running game from the random parts the Cowboys have assembled. Then they have to do all the things right that they did last year. If they get all that, I think it's enough difference to get them in a Super Bowl.

Question: Dallas seems to have a number of under- or un-utilized offensive players like Dunbar, Escobar, Williams, Street, Hanna, etc. While Dez is an elite player, you see the Patriots and Seahawks succeed without a great player. Could Linehan and Romo adapt to a more diverse offense that does not focus so much on Dez if he holds out?

Cowboys: Not all second-tier talents are equal. Of the bunch you mention, last year was on Terrance Williams, not the Cowboys' scheme. He's pretty much conceded as much, and I expect him to be better this year. I didn't see much out of Street last year to make him demand more opportunities. Escobar is utilized around the end zone, which is all he's going to get if he doesn't learn to block better. As for Dunbar, I've long thought that teams should look at guys his size in the slot. Rex Burkhead is getting that opportunity now in Cincinnati. What I don't know is how well Dunbar runs his routes. When a QB is looking for a slot receiver, usually in an emergency, he's got to know exactly where he's going to be.

I thought Escobar's blocking improved greatly last season,,,

I think Escobar needs to be used much more this year if they plan on him being Witten's replacement . If not, he will be another wasted 2nd round draft pick at the TE position.

Dunbar on the field would be a novel concept. Every year the coaches really heap praise on him and he rarely sees the field .

We have offensive weapons for days..

what a concept, everything has to go right for the Cowboys to win the SB? Well i hope the league doesnt figure it out. Also pretty much saying, "if one thing goes wrong for this team we have no faith than can do anything"

and if you want to be taken serious as a journalist, PLEASE please start telling the fans. "listen, try to figure this out, its every teams year every year" this is the league of parity where its more important everyone feels they have a chance to win compared to the concept of "you want it, you got to take it"

PS its been the cowboys year every year for a while and dont count those Eagles, every year since the NFL its been the Eagles year.

So for the sake of stupidity will fans stop saying that.

Cowboys losing Ware, Hatcher to free agency and Lee to season ending injury, along with Holloman retiring was the start to our defensive campaign last year, so things didn't exactly go smoothly for us. But we managed to survive and proper. There's more fight to this team than editors will give credit for

Exactly. Plenty went wrong last offseason, but we still persevered. I don't think it was just luck, either. Everyone on the team stepped up. Things are going to happen this year too, players are going to land on the IR, there's no escaping that fact. But I'm not as worried as I would have been in past years about injury, since our depth is good at most positions.

Romo must stay healthy as well as the majority of the oline
To me those are the keys
We have good depth at lb, some in the secondary and at WR
What we don't have is depth at QB and to me it's limited at OT
