Cowboys beat writer Todd Archer answered your questions in a chat Friday. Here are some highlights.

Todd asks ... Do you take what Patrick Crayton said seriously, or is this a case of him getting a few parting shots at his former team?

Todd Archer: Actually, I don't think Patrick Crayton was taking shots. I think he was speaking the truth. We've known Wade Phillips does not have any input on the offensive game plan. The coach has said as much this year and that's not too much of a surprise. Sean Payton is not in Gregg Williams' ear putting the defense together in New Orleans. As far as Phillips letting things slide, again, I think he's telling the truth. Players like coaches who treat them like men, and that's what Phillips will do. The problem sometimes is that there are players that have not earned that kind of trust. I think that's what Crayton was getting at.

Rick asks ... If Dallas loses Monday, why not fire Wade and see what Garrett can do in 10 games as interim coach? Why on earth not?

Todd Archer: Jerry Jones has consistently said Wade Phillips is safe. I understand your reasoning and might agree with you but I don't see it happening. Sorry.

Looks like "soft" was not used in the actual blog post by Archer or in the chat that the blog post references. Whoever wrote the headline to the blog post used it. I wonder if that was edited by someone other than Archer, who was unaware of the "issue."

Headlines are typically written by Editors...which was sorta my point in the other thread.

I don't understand why Wade would be fired. If you do take Crayton at his word, that Wade is ONLY defense and Garrett is ONLY offense, and since people seem to equate penalties with a lack of discipline, then let's look at the penalties.

Special Teams: 6
Defense: 15
Offense: 29

Granted, some penalties hurt more than others (like PI, or holding on a big return on special teams, or TD nullifying penalties), but going just by the numbers, I'd say that Garrett has far more issues with discipline than Wade.

That is a valid point. JG seems to have a bigger issue with accountability of his players then Wade does.

Only in Dallas is a coordinator more responsible for instilling dicipline than the HC. If JG tried to do things his way then he'd be accused of undermining the HC. It was posted a couple of weeks ago that JG wanted to run a play until the offense got it right and he was over ruled by Wade who just went on to the next play. The guy just can't win and now gets blamed for an area that is the domain of the guy who took the HC job. If we're going to blame Garrett, then just get rid of Wade and let JG run the show.
