I think it's safe to say that getting T.O. the ball was a priority against the 49ers. Just like the previous week's win against the Commanders, T.O. was targeted more than Jason Witten and Roy Williams combined.

I wouldn't be alarmed by Witten's lack of production. He was inches away from two big gains on corner routes --his right heel came down out of bounds on one, and CB Nate Clements landed a kill shot to jar the ball loose on the other. Tony Romo floated the ball a bit too much on both throws, which might be related to the splint on his pinkie finger.

Here's the breakdown on where Romo's throws went:

Terrell Owens -- 7-of-13, 213 yards, TD

Marion Barber -- 7-of-9, 50 yards

Roy Williams -- 3-of-5, 36 yards

Jason Witten -- 1-of-4, 11 yards

Patrick Crayton -- 2-of-3, 16 yards, TD

Tashard Choice -- 2-of-2, 14 yards

Martellus Bennett -- 1-of-1, 1 yard, TD

Tony Curtis -- 0-of-1

Throwaway -- 0-of-1

Total -- 23-of-39, 341 yards, 3 TDs

Weekly T.O. throw-by-throw: Making the 49ers pay for a foolish game plan

T.O. earned the right to unleash a little told-ya-so after the second 200-yard game of his career came on the heels of folks criticizing him for complaining about his role in the Cowboys' offense.

"When I get my hands on the ball, things happen," T.O. said. "It's not a mystery."

You want a mystery? Try to figure out what the heck the 49ers defensive staff was thinking when it decided not to follow the blueprint teams have been using to shut T.O. down since September.

By my count, San Francisco played press coverage on T.O. once all game. That play was the 49ers' lone sack. He spent a lot of his Sunday running free through the secondary after getting free releases off the line of scrimmage.

Maybe T.O.'s skills are declining, but he definitely hasn't lost a step. He showed that he still has blazing speed with the 40-plus-yard catches against San Francisco, two of which were made possible because of Tony Romo's ability to elude a pass rusher while keeping his eyes downfield. (Those are sacks or checkdowns with Brad Johnson back there.)

The equation: Free releases + fantastic plays by Romo = Pro Bowl T.O.

Follow the jump for the weekly T.O. throw-by-throw.

Incompletion -- Lined up in the right slot, stacked behind Jason Witten, on third-and-6 and ran a slant. Ball thrown behind him, looking like there was miscommunication between Romo and T.O.

Incompletion -- Lined up wide right on first-and-15 and ran sideline comeback. Might have been a scramble drill with Romo flushed from the pocket. Ball thrown out of bounds far out of bounds for T.O. to have chance to get his feet down.

Incompletion -- Lined up in left slot on third-and-10 and ran out-and-up. Good coverage by S Michael Lewis. Ball landed out of bounds.

75-yard TD -- Lined up outside right in twins look on third-and-8 and ran out-and-up. Ran by CB Nate Clements after illegal contact downfield and powered through poor tackle attempt after catching the ball, muscling his way into the end zone for his longest TD as a Cowboy. Romo eluded a pass rusher who came free and stepped up in the pocket to give T.O. time to get open, then put the pass on the money.

Incompletion -- Lined up wide right on first-and-20 and ran a hook. Drop.

45-yard gain -- Lined up in right slot and ran seam route, bending it outside, vs. soft man coverage by Clements. Created last-second separation by pushing off with his left hand and caught a pass that Romo threw to the outside, giving T.O. a chance to adjust.

8-yard gain -- Lined up outside right in twins look on first-and-10 and ran a drag, sitting down in soft spot of zone in middle of field for easy catch between the linebackers.

Incompletion -- Lined up wide right on first-and-10 and ran slant. Got both hands on the ball thrown behind him but couldn't make a tough catch.

52-yard gain -- Lined up in right slot on third-and-9 and ran an out-and-up. Got free run at S Mark Roman and blew by him. Looked like CB Donald Strickland was supposed to chuck T.O. at the 5-yard mark but basically patted him on the back as he ran by. Romo eluded another pass rusher and stepped up in the pocket again before firing another strike.

17-yard gain -- Lined up outside in left twins on third-and-7 and ran intermediate crossing route. Got separation from Strickland and Romo hit him in stride after stepping up in the pocket. Safeties, who were playing zone with man coverage underneath, closed quickly to prevent run after catch.

Incompletion -- Lined up wide right on third-and-12 and ran curl. The throw by Romo, who was flushed from the pocket, was off target and almost intercepted by Clements.

2-yard gain -- Lined up wide left on first-and-10 and got ball on smoke route. Tackled by Clements immediately.

14-yard gain -- Lined up wide right on third-and-5 and ran quick slant. Bobbled low ball but held on as he was falling to the ground to go over 200 yards for the second time in his career.

I think we have to give Redball some credit here.

The twins right set seemed to cause the 49ers to back off of T.O. and allow him free releases which he used to abuse them like they were making fun of his abs.
