Do GM's talk and tell each other the truth?

As Rolando McClain leaves NE without a contract, had me wondering. Do GMs have honest conversations with each other about whether or not they have or intend to make an offer to a player? Obviously, they wont divulge what the offer is, but is there an unwritten gentleman's agreement that GMs help each other call player's and agent's bluffs? i.e., if the player and agent say "we have an offer from New England" to gain leverage and drive up the price, will Bellichick tell Stephen, "no we have not made an offer"?

Parcells got mad a Sean Payton because the Saints bid up the price on a Cowboys player. Parcells excepted Payton to discuss it with him first.

Yeah, good recall on that one. There's a code that at least some of them believe they operate under.

Payton tried to get Keith Davis his first year in New Orleans and Parcells said he's new to this and all he had to do was call him.

I suspect they share a great deal more than people would expect about players and even the draft. Probably not about contracts if they are vying for a FA, but likely share about how the player is. I'm sure there's give and takes and some BS throw around. It's a GMs job to cut through the bull and recognize the facts from the embellishments.

If you really, really, really want a player...
Then you lie, lie, lie.

Truth won't do you any good there.

Even further proof that Parcells' time had passed.

They aren't competitors in a business sense. They're part of a trade association.

Each NFL team is a direct competitor of the other because every time teams play one team wins and the other loses and there are only so many playoff spots and only 1 SB champion every year

I think that is pretty much the definition of competition

Right, but as a business, they are part of the same trade association. They don't directly compete as businesses, they actually share profits and what not. You completely ignored what I was saying.

I didn't ignore anything you said
Each NFL franchise is a Multi billion dollar business unto itself
Also the wins result in millions in revenue
What do you think the Patriots were worth 15 years back and what are they worth now? Easily millions more than they would have been had they been consistent losers last 15 years
Guess who they were winning against? Their competition
That would be other NFL teams

That is not even bringing up the fact that some NFL owners make a ton more as a business than other NFL teams because of their business savvy

So yes, NFL teams directly compete as sports franchises and as businesses

That is the fact you are missing

GMs, all of them, have a secret meeting place, much like the Freemason's did, where they talk, devise schemes, and laugh over whiskey and cigars at the various ways to make us peasants spend more and more $$ on their teams.

We are all puppets I tell you. Puppets.

True........It's called the Owners Meeting.....Last held in Arizona

I think they do when it's a situation of matters League Wide. When they get to together in their secret Buildabear meetings....... Sorry, I mean Bilderberg meetings..... when they have those, I think they are honest with one another for the most part. When it's matters of specific team related issues, I'm not thinking they do. They are all business men, like others have pointed out.

Jerry Jones and Al Davis as we all know were pretty close.
IIRC, Al called Jerry and suggested he go after Haley in SF, since he was disgruntled there, and SF was with him too.

After the trade, Al called Jerry back and said...congratulations, you just won the SB...

According to Jimmy the Haley trade was his idea and Jerry stole the credit.
