If they don’t have the “gun for hire” mentality coming in, the agents make sure they grasp that quickly.

They are all in it to make the most they can and understand there is a ticking clock in the background.

Loyalty does not exist in professional sports.

I’m not sure what’s funny, good weather, no state income Taxss, great football state to raise a family and most of these guys have family members who are or were cowboys fans. The cowboys also put players in the spotlight and that equals great exposure for endorsements etc. the cowboys equal brand exposure

The cowboys run the team like a mom and pop shop but they don’t have to

The cowboys have the ability to be the biggest free agent draw every year- yes, they do. It’s a destination market. Ownership runs the franchise like it isn’t however
That may be true but they don't come here to win.

You get paid here if you are drafted though!
Because if we draft you then you're indelibly linked to Jerry and his personal football genius...he won't give up on you as that's tantamount to him admitting he was wrong.

No. It's all fan talk. Only players ego may want to are rookies because of social media attention. When it comes to free agency......nope

I think Jerry and his booger son believe this and hence why they tend to low ball guys in FA. I think they really believe its a privilege playing for the franchise above all others and that if a FA wants to play here, they have to take a little bit less than they would to go somewhere else. I absolutely believe they think there is value in going to Dallas beyond just dollars that a player can put in his pocket.

They are delusional but what else is new?

You can see Jerry with his slow drawl............."Yeah, I know Philly you offered you that and the Chiefs offered you that, but those two places can't offer the prestige of putting that star helmet on your head............ blah, blah, blah"

are we really saying this team doesn't care about winning?

team has won 25 games the past 2 years.......the organization cares about winning, but just because you care about it doesn't mean you know how to which is why we can't get over the hump to a superbowl....

I care about fixing my sink and want it to run well and sometimes it does but i boil the pipes and use duct tape and chewing gum

Absolutely
Who doesn’t want to play for a team tgat overpays for mediocrity
And have the big mouthed owner speak of you highly even if you stink because he has to convince everyone that he knows what he is doing.

The Cowboys brand brings a lot of attention to players. A number of Cowboys players have gone on to have lucrative careers after football and being a part of the Cowboys was a big reason. There’s three former Cowboys players that are in the booth talking football and Michael Irvin has had a great career talking football. Jason Witten got an opportunity to do Monday night football because he was a Cowboy. Being part of the Cowboys has brought on a ton of opportunities for former players.

They want to pay for whoever pays them the most. Jerry needs to get over the idea that people are going to play for the "name" of the Cowboys because none of the current NFL players hitting free agency even remember when the Cowboys were championship contenders. That shine is no longer there so now you have to sell the same way every other team does, by paying more money.

Do players really want to play for dallas, or is this more of a use them to get the price and notoriety I need to get where I want to go? Are the Cowboys still a team that makes a player feel they're going to win the big game? Do you feel that players realize there's issues in Dallas as to why they haven't won anything major in close to 30 years? Do these things and more, attract players to stay away from Dallas? You have a set of owners who like to low-ball players, and feed them that there's a winning culture around this team. I'm not sure if it's based off the success in previous years when they were superbowl champs.

Please give your thoughts
They dont want to play for Dallas. They get linked to Dallas because we have a very large and naive fan base. It drives viewership in media

My daughter is a Cowboys fan in her early 30's growing out of market in CT, only because her old man (me) brought up the right way. I've been a fan since the late 60's and I can honestly say we sure have lost a lot of prestige, especially in the last 27 years.
While I can agree on the weather, income tax benefits and the old allure, the cowboy’s image as America’s team has faded and players don’t come here to join a winning organization.

Yes things change
(MONEY Magazine) – Drumroll, please. The winner of this year's survey of the best places to live in the U.S.A. is a booming New York City exurb with country charm: Danbury, Conn. Aug 1, 1988.

Danbury is not even seen in the top 50 anymore.

Good points and I’m very familiar with Danbury - being only about 30 mins maybe away. I really don’t care why a free agent would or wouldn’t come here- my issue is if they would even want to. They still do. We just don’t sign them and that’s speaking to a bigger issue than the thought process behind if they would.

New haven area here myself

It’s mostly about money for players these days, but the Joneses could get any player they want to play for the Cowboys if they were willing to pay them.

I'm about 5 minutes from Danbury and I also wish we were more active in the market.

Unless you're one of the fortunate ones to get an over hyped and overpriced contract, what do you have to look forward to? Oh sure, you might get lucky and appear in an early round playoff game every few years, but other than that you're never going to get that SB ring so why play for a dysfunctional organization like the Dallas Cowboys.
