In other words, do not reach for any player because of need. if it means we take guys like A.J. Green or Julio Jones, so be it. i keep seeing people having the Cowboys reaching for a DE, OL and CB/S with the 9th pick. i say no! unless you can get Fairley or Darius at DE with the 9th pick. leave DE alone in the first round. and there is no O-Linemen in this draft worth the 9th pick. and unless you can ger P.Peterson. leave CB/S alone in the first round. If Green or Jones slide to 9th. we have to take either one, because they will be the best players on the board. we may be looking at another Bobby Carpenter, if we reach for a guy like J.J. Watt. and no O-Linemen should be taken 9th.PERIOD! TAKE THE BEST PLAYER JERRY.

Honestly, I would not mind trading out of this years 1st into next years if we could get a good deal. Like if we could get a 1st next year and another round or two this year, I like the later rounds this year.

I also would like us to have two #1s next year after we've had some real coaches evaluate our current players.

Normally, I'd be all for this tactic, but I mean...why draft a WR just because he's the best? :bang2: This year, I'm all for a NON SEXY, get-what-we-need draft.

I want to come out of the first 3 rounds with a great talent at CB and FS. here are 2 four guys i think will be there.
1.Prince Amukamara. Nebraska CB
2.Janoris Jenkins. Florida CB
3.Rahim Moore. UCLA FS
4.Deunta Williams. North Carolina
Peterson from LSU will be gone before we pick.

Unfortunately, as it stands, you can't include next years draft picks in trades for this season.

Does it really matter as long as Tony is playing golf in South Carolina instead of studying his playbook?

You're right, we should shut down the forum. :)

If we cant get Pat Peterson then get AJ Green.....him and dez is unstoppable!!! I agree get the best player dont rea h cause the experts say so

Interesting article in the Milwaukee paper this week on just this topic:

http://www.jsonline.com/packerinsider/118438259.html

It's about Ted Thompson's (Green Bay's GM) approach the draft. He is a strong believer in taking the best player available, irregardless of the position. They point to Aaron Rogers somehow falling from what people thought might be the #1 pick in the draft down to the 20s where Green Bay took him even though Favre had 3-5 more years in him.

Thompson's quote from the article on his 'draft the best player available' strategy was:
"We feel very strongly that our best policy is to try and draft the best player because you never know," Thompson said. "This whole drafting for need, this isn't fantasy football. As you can tell from our team this year, what you think you have at a position could go away with one sprained ankle or one bad knee."

Anyway, food for thought. Certainly has been working for GB.

Matt Millen is that u? Seriously tho, Tony wont have time to throw to anybody, if the oline keeps on decaying..

No team really goes BPA without taking into account need. Green Bay was looking for Favre's replacement and Rodgers fell to them. They knew they had time but they were going to take him if he fell and he did.

Matt millen is the perfect example of someone that could screw up a replacement of a light bulb. Blindly going BPA is just as stupid as going blindly for need.

I agree but I would take a pass rusher before wr.
Not a primary need but elite pass rushers are tough to come by in the NFL. Adding another one to go along with Ware would be nice.
Aldon Smith-DE-from Missouri-fits as a 3/4 pass rusher.
A big time pass rusher will have an IMPACT immediately.

If the Cowboys draft the best available player on their board, and it happens to be Julio Jones for example, why not draft him and trade him later in the draft for a young established player (preferably a OL) on someone's roster and their second round pick in this year drafts if that team is willing to do so?

What about arranging a deal with a team that picks lower than you in the 1st round where you swap not picks but actual guys you drafted? You draft a player for them and they draft a specific player for you lower down that you like if he's still available, then you swap them and they give you another draft pick or two. It'd be like trading down except there's the certainty in knowing exactly who you're going to get instead of taking the chance your guy is still there by the time your acquired lower 1st-round pick is up next. That has happened in the NBA a few times, and I think the Rivers-E. Manning deal happened that way.

Once a player is drafted they fall into the same rules of all the veteran players in that they cannot be traded during the lockout.
But teams can trade picks because they trade the pick before the player is drafted.
