Do our recievers scare anyone?

They darn sure scare me, especially #83 when he's making a catch in traffic. Beasley has been carrying the football like it's a loaf of bread (mini-dez), he seems to be asking for it to get taken away. As for our other WRs, they might as well be nameless because they're a complete non factor in the games.

On those plays, the 'open' WRs weren't primary reads. Terrence said after the game that the coaches had been harping all week on Weeden making his first two reads and then checking down to Dunbar where they liked the matchup underneath, and that's what he did. So it was by design.

I didn't see what xwalker did with WRs running free downfield very much unless it was when ATL was playing soft coverage on 3rd and 10 or more, in which case they were all guarding the sticks and watching the QB for the throw where they had a significant numbers advantage. I did see Butler running with a cushion a few times, but he obviously wasn't a primary on those plays. The team wanted to get the ball out fast to an open guy if the play was there, and that's what they did. Again, it was a reasonable plan given where we are with the offensive personnel. What's more, we're going to continue to see the exact same thing. Now, maybe NO won't play the CBs deep and some of those downfield passes will be earlier reads this week, but it's still going to be read, read, checkdown with the backup stone-golem running the offense.

Whether is was Weeden or the coaches, either way the problem was not that receivers couldn't get open.

They could have setup a couple of plays with Butler as the primary and it would have changed the way Atlanta was playing defense.

There was one play were they basically let a WR run a go route without covering him. I think it was Beasley.

Even Stephen Jones said they should have thrown some balls deeper.

That, I agree with. Somewhere in that 2nd half they should have found a chance to push it deep by design. They didn't have a ton of chances to do it, because of the negative plays, but there was at least one 2nd and short I can remember. Even throwing it away deep on the sideline on the 3rd and 23 or the 3rd and 14 (?) would have helped to get the point across.

It might have been too late by the middle of the 2nd half. Next time they might need to keep the defense "honest" before the game is getting out of hand.

I still don't know how much is on the coaches and how much is on Weeden. That play where he slid down behind the line while under only slight pressure was all on Weeden.

No indecision from me. I think it is pretty clear they wanted to have Weeden be conservative and establish the run. That makes it on the coaches. Even Weeden's own comments suggest he was following the directives from the gameplan.

I honestly think they thought that the Falcons would eventually fold and quit, especially after the run game was clicking so well early.

I also think they were unprepared for the defense to be so bad.

I am at work today and during my safety meeting with my employees, one says, "Hey Chief, my clavicle is hurts, can I go home today?" This got everyone laughing and after the meeting, some of us were talking football. We were talking about our (Cowboys) WR's and who do we really have? For every touchdown that Williams gets, it looks like he drops 4 crucial balls. For all the training camp talk about Beasley, he plays right into what defenses are going to be stopping. Then there are the other guys who just look like they are just fillng up a spot. Our 3rd RB seems to be our biggest receiving threat and I am not sure that's a good thing. Is it our WR's? Is it Weeden or is it our scheme, in general?

The question you should be asking is does anyone think our QB can throw the ball 50 yards downfield ?

This is what I think happened, too.

Our WR's are like the ones in Electric Football

They mean well and you want to use them, but you know you never really can.....

Weeden has the arm. Always has.

It is his decision making and the staff's trust in him to make those throws.

Jerry made some over the top comments but they had a kernel of truth to them. Against air, Weeden can spin the football.
