Do some fans not even realize how much this franchise has bottomed out?

I think calling it a "plan" is generous.

There is no plan or blue print. There is no "cowboy way of doing things" anymore. We are a circus and the head clown and ringleader is Jerry Jones.
Stephen has him convinced that an extra 3 or 4 comp picks a year can push them over the top.

Demarco Murray put up 123 yards rushing on the Packers in 2014 and Romo had a solid game but our defense couldn’t stop a one legged Aaron Rodgers. Zeke had 125 yards on the ground against the Packers and Dak had over 300 yards but once again we couldn’t stop Rodgers. Not to mention we scored 31 points. The Rams road graded us for over 200 yards in the playoffs. In our last playoff game the Packers kept scoring TDs on practically every drive. Our defense has been the issue. Our offense would have had more opportunities with better defensive play. Plus we don’t force turnovers in the playoffs.
Our offense and defenses suck.
Today, not yesterday is the topic at hand

I think that money is the main thing that most players look at. The Cowboys aren't going to be as bad as Washington was just a year ago when they were drafting at the 2 spot. It's likely that the Cowboys will be healthier than they were last year and could actually have a better year than they did. They could actually improve.
In general Dallas is losing players and replacing with less talented players. How could Dallas improve under those circumstances? Their season will be worst this year!

we would have to be healthier next year than one has any reason to expect for us to really have a good season.

Losing players? The only one that hurts so far is Lewis. Lawrence played all of 4 games last year. The Cowboys will likely have less injuries than they had last year and the team is getting younger. They are moving in the right direction.

lmao...poor little rambo2, believes anything Jerry tells him too.

There’s teams that have gone a decade or more without making the playoffs or a playoff win. To compete for a championship you have to make the playoffs. The Cowboys have put themselves in position to make a run at a championship plenty of times but they keep faltering in the playoffs. The real good teams they’ve had during the regular season haven’t translated to the postseason. There’s a lot of teams that haven’t been to a conference title game the past 30 years.
one can select any period of time to make a case....the longer the history, the more precedent there is. as I mentioned in another comment, there is ebbs and flows in NFL. some go evrey 5 years or so, some about 10. the fact is we have gone 30 years and no playoff success. that's been the ceiling. so looking at post season, when it matters most, we have been very very bad for 30 years running.

yes, you have to make the playoffs. I get it. but you build for playoffs not for regular season wins.

When have won nothing and are in a horrible positiin to do so taday.
The thread title is in the present tense, not the past
This was the OP’s question. “I guess my question for those people is do you actually realize how bad this team has been since 1997?”

There’s a process to reaching the playoffs and SB and it all starts with the regular season. You can’t be looking ahead. They play 17 regular season games for a reason. Those regular season wins are important if you want to go further.

Not looking ahead is for the team-not fans lol. If you enjoy and applaud the regular season wins as though they mean the same as a postseason win, you are the quintessential fan for Jerry and Stephen Jones.

Fans can look anywhere on the schedule and ahead to potential opponents. Fandom is about each individual’s perspective. I’m okay with everyone’s perspective, unless their perspective is to berate someone else for not having a “correct” perspective.

again, a lot of teams get into playoffs. I can't think of any team in past 30 years who hasn't.

and the process is you build a team that can succeed in post season. not one that wins division in regular season. regular season success has to translate into post season success and we have not.

we have not succeeded in post season. one of the worst in the league.

you are way way way way too focused on regular season success.

Ha just wait until we start the season 1-7 , dak is injured and there's no more meaningful football before we even get to haloween...

I never said I wasn’t disappointed by the playoff losses or was satisfied with just making the playoffs. The point I keep making is the organization hasn’t been as dreadful the past 30 years as some of you make it out to be. Just because a team keeps falling short in the playoffs doesn’t mean they’re a dumpster dweller.

Only way is to hope 2nd and 3rd players step up and close the gab and they have a perfect draft.

Some teams don’t get there very often. Miami hasn’t won a playoff game since 2001. They’ve only made the playoffs five times the past 24 years and are 0-5. There’s other teams that have had more playoff futility than the Cowboys the past 30 years.
