Do we draft Colt McCoy?

Skippy McCoy? Hell no! That dude looks like all it takes is one good sack and he'll be on his way to full-on DOWN SYNDROME!

he does look like Jason Garrett's little brother or lost son:

Depth, value and the future... Not to mention, we'd never have to worry about a lost season b/c of the quarterback. The Chargers did it well with Rivers and Brees. Why couldn't we?

Wasnt Stephen McGee drafted for that purpose last year???

We win one single playoff game and all of a sudden our roster is so stacked that we can just piss away 1st rounders for a 4th string QB.

How bout we draft somebody that we actually need, like a safety or an offensive lineman???

we have a forth invested in McGee. and it was last year. plus we have a proven vet. starter as a back up with McGee as the development QB. there is just no way we take him as much as i would love for him to be a cowboy. plus i don't think he fits our system IMO his best shot at success is 2-3 years of learning in a west coast style system with his accuracy i think thats where he belongs

There is no way Colt can make the throws that Romo can, the arm strenght is just not there.

In training camp last year in San Antonio, I was watching Romo in warm ups and after throwing some short and medium routes, Romo air launched a rocket. The ball went 75 yards in the air, no way in hell could McCoy come even close to that.

The poster is right that Colt would be best in a WCO instead of a veritcal offense that Dallas uses. Without the arm strenght that Romo has, we would have to significantly change the type of pass plays we have to accomodate Colt.

I dont think I would go that far.

I just dont think the guy is going to be any good in the NFL. He comes from a gimmicky spread offense that made a living off passes thrown at 5-10 yds, is small and has a mediocre to weak arm. He basically got overwhelmed in both of the games where he faced a decent defensive team this year.

I just dont see any upside in him. Thats why I wouldnt draft him. Plus, we have a starter in his prime, a backup they really like and just drafted a guy in the 4th rd last yr (who is physically much more gifted than McCoy) so I dont even see an opening for a QB.

I'm not a Texas fan, but thought McCoy was fantastic. I think he'll do excelent in the NFL, and is my top rated QB coming out this year. He's smart enough and athletic enough to play in the NFL, and that far outweighs his arm strength and the type of offense he came from. That said, no I wouldn't draft him in any round. We've all seen first hand what slowly grooming a QB can do, and McGee is that guy.

I see no purpose at all to him being drafted here other than Longhorns fans who are also Cowboys fans would pee themselves. I have nothing invested in adult Depends, so no.

... if he falls to us?

I like Colt but I don't see it. I will say if Dallas took him in the 6th or 7th I would not have an issue with it but I don't see Dallas using a high to mid round pick on QB

to watch the regular whiners head's explode, always worth a 5th round pick.
Well, since we don't have a 5th round pick, we're screwed. Screwed, screwed, screwed.

Screwed.

Let me say that I do believe McCoy has a good chance to make a career in the NFL if his shoulder is not a game stopper. I like the guy and if I needed a QB, I would certainly draft him if I had the chance. However, we already have a development QB on the Roster. You can't develope too many QBs at the same time. You just don't have the resources and what ends up happening is that you short both young players when you try to do this. If he was there for us in the later rounds, then I might try to think about it but I don't see that and even if he were, I'd really have to think about it. Drafting Colt would be doing him no favors unless the plan was to cut McGee. I'd rather see Colt go to a team that really wanted him and needed him. At least he would have a better chance to develop and play. If he comes here, I think that effort is seriously compramised. I just like the kid too much to wish for that to happen to him.

all the people that say he sucks you at least have to admit he is a better prospect than Chris Simms was and even he has had an OK career as a back up. i just don't see colt being an epic failure. i think his career will be anywhere between Jeff Garcia(great back up who will be able to win games if called upon) to drew brees( similar stature and build both from Texas both really productive in college both ultra accurate) i don't know what the saints situation is with a development QB but i would love for them to get him at the bottom of 2-3
