Do we have a talent problem?

Instead of blaming Wade, the officials and Jerry, what about the talent?

I will first start with the defense and in no particular order:

Mike Jenkins - I thought we was going to be a shutdown corner, but he was targeted by the Titans.

Anthony Spencer - Only one sack, does make some good running defense plays, but not like the force on the pass rush.

Orlando Scandrick - He has not had a good year, and I would target him as a defender.

Alan Ball- Was not expecting much, and I believe that is what we got. Rumor was Dallas worked out a safety over the bye week.

Igor/Spears- maybe decent against the run, but these guys are JAG.

I could add more, the only ones that I think are really playing well are Ware, Newman and Ratliff.

On offense:

Really hard to critize anyone accept the offensive line. In particular, Davis, Columbo. The others I thought have been solid enough.

Tony has been inconsistent and that Witten has been solid enough, but too many penaties. Bennett is playing decent enough for Bennett.

The ones that are playing well are Austin,Roy, Felix, (Barber- for him).

So, in summary, most of the sub performance has been on defense.

My thoughts.....

Random question...if it is a talent problem who is responsible for getting that talent, or evaluating that talent?

Hmmmm...oh yeah...Jerry and the staff.

I don't think Spears is a jag. I think he's much better than that.

Long answer? No -- not at the spots you said.

Even good players have bad games. Jenkins has been outstanding, but for one day looked like he had never played the position. Spencer actually has played well, I've thought. And so on.

Now, we do have weaknesses. Our offensive linemen are overrated and mistake prone. We don't have a playmaking inside linebacker. Our starting free safety is a marginal backup. Our field goal kicker is utterly unreliable.

But everyone has weaknesses. There's not a team with playmakers literally across the field. Even the Steelers defense has guys who probably couldn't start elsewhere, but plug the gaps nicely there.

Jenkins is fine
Spencer is solid
Spears is no JAG
Tony has been inconsistent?

Bottom line - we don't have a talent problem. We may play stupid but lack of talent isn't the problem.

Teams lacking talent don't walk into the Superdome and blow out a 13-0 Saints team that would eventually go on to win the Superbowl.

I disagree that the talent is the issue.

Jenkins had a terrible game
Scandrick had a terrible game
Brookings had a terrible game
Davis had a terrible game
Columbu had a terrible game
Marty B had a poor game

This was team that was so ill prepared it made me sick. Did the coaching staff not review film? Had HH never seen a spin move before? Is our offensive line STILL lost when a defensive line shifts or stunts? Why do we still not have a FB?

A lot of guys played under their talent level no doubt, but they looked confused most of the game, they have looked confused in a lot of these games, but this is the worst the offensive line has looked this year, same for the secondary.

I do not know how Wade, Houck and Campo are still employed after that debacle. This team needs some toughness, we need more than lip service in a group hug before game, we need someone to come in kick the door down. I say hire Randy White to Coach this team. If nothing else, make this team mean as hell.

Oh, no doubt.

The guy sitting in front of me at the game yesterday, following every incompletion: "Romo has got to go. He's the problem. He's terrible."

The guy walking beside us on the way out: "Garrett sucks! He didn't even try to run the ball today."

On the coaching staff I would say yes.

Also, I'm not sure we have a very good "team".

We have nice individual talent though.

spears holds his own.

igor on the other hand is jag. did you notice all of CJ's cutbacks seemed to happen on igors side.

This argument is a vicious cycle.

One side criticizes Jerry for his deficiencies as a GM, and the other side defends him by pointing to the talented roster he's assembled here. The first side then criticizes the coaches for failing to coax more out of this allegedly talented roster, and the other side defends the coaches by blaming the players for their performance. This, of course, takes the argument back to the person who assembled these underperforming players--Jerry Jones--and the cycle starts over.

we have a huge talent problem. especially on the o line where we are ancient with no real hope of getting younger and better at that position any time soon. not to mention the poor history of drafting o lineman as of late, so if you're hoping the draft will save us, don't hold your breath.

many of these guys are horribly overrated. we can't keep referring to most on this roster as "great" when what have they ever done to earn such praise? any of them? ONE playoff win. stop eating the cheese people! our roster is over rated!

players i would call above average talented as we sit here today....

romo, austin, witten. that's it for the offense.

ware, newman, ratliff, james. that's it for the defense.

everyone else is OVER RATED and an AVERAGE player at best. There are certainly some people on the roster who could emerge as great (Dez, Spencer, .....a few others) but they either need to get committed to it or play harder because most of this team is average. I've been fooled by this roster for far too long. the media and fans have been pumping them up for far too long. Yes we have coaching problems, but we also have talent problems, and we really just need to admit it and accept it.

which means.....in summary.....we have ORGANIZATIONAL problems. we have a fundamental problem with how this team is being run at the moment. we aren't good at evaluating talent on any level. Coaching, players...we have deficiencies and leaks in several areas. I'm not sure how we get out of this mess, but we need to look in the mirror first.
