Do we look at adding another WR?

I saw this a few moments ago on KFFL.com:

Eagles | R. Brown may not be on his way out of town
Comment (0) Sat, 05 Sep 2009 03:47:00 -0700
Geoff Mosher, of The News Journal, reports Philadelphia Eagles WR Reggie Brown is a serious contender to be released from the team. He had a career-best 61 receptions last season. "Either I'll be here Monday or I won't be here Monday," Brown said Friday, Sept. 4. He didn't get into the game Thursday until the fourth quarter and appears no better than the team's fifth receiver. There is also the possibility the team could try to trade him instead of release him.

I cannot help but think that Brown would be a better option than the oft-injured Austin at this time. Frankly, with 61 catches last season, he could break out in our offense. I'm sure he won't be the only big name released at the WR position, but I cannot help but thing he will be the one with the most upside that is available.

does anyone really have any confidence that Crayton,Hurd and Austin can stay healthy..

Eagles and Giants have alot of depth at receiver, they've been building depth for the last three years at receiver to push the older guys out.

And never mind the fact Sam Hurd has been more injury prone than Miles Austin?

Or that Austin is clearly the fastest receiver on the team?

The 61 catches came in '07, he only posted 18 grabs last year and his numbers have been in decline for three years.

He might break out and catch maybe 10 passes at best for us.

How did Roy Williams do last year learning a new system and quarterback on the fly?

You think Reggie Brown would do any better?

I think we are more than fine with the 5 guys we have.

We might add someone to the practice squad though. But not a vet.

Now Patrick Crayton is injury prone? He's missed one game in the last three seasons.

Sam Hurd is struggling to stay healthy, but Miles Austin is fine, the team used the hamstring as an excuse to not play him against the Vikings.

Yeah, I didn't look at his stats, I just trusted that KFFL knew what they were talking about. It was 2007, not last year as they wrote in their story. That being said, I just don't feel good going in with our current crop or WR's. I think we need one move somewhere to improve overall talent. I know this gets old, but if Roy Willimas goes down...

If Roy Williams goes down, and he does have a history of missing games, we don't have a player to fill his role.

Neither do most teams.

If the best player at a position goes down, it's tough to replace him and get similar production.

I like our group of wide receivers even though all of them come with questions attached.

And they are what we've got, any possible addition at this point would be behind the eight ball in a new scheme with a quarterback that doesn't trust him.

And Kevin Ogletree emerging as our fifth is a very nice gift, he can help right away if the need arises.

We didn't have four wideouts who could play most of last year.

I don't understand why people think we need to go out and get another WR. Our receiving corps (including WRs, TEs and RBs) is solid:

WRs
R. Williams
P. Crayton
M. Austin
S. Hurd
K. Ogletree

TEs
J. Witten
M. Bennett

RBs
M. Barber
F. Jones
T. Choice

I think receptions (ranking, not number of catches) will be: 1) Witten 2) Williams 3) Bennett 4) Crayton 5) Jones 6) Barber 7) Ogletree (I just have a feeling he'll pass Austin and Hurd) 8) Austin 9) Hurd 10) Choice (just because he won't get a ton of playing time unless there is an injury)

Unless a veteran is released who could add another "wow" factor to the offense, I don't see us going after anyone.

I think we are set at WR. I can't imagine who we could add that is any better than what we already have.

Hurd and Austin I have no confidence they can stay healthy...Crayton is a rock and will be ok and hopefully so will Williams. Besides Olgatree can step in for either of our scrubs if they go down.
