Do we miss Randy Gregory?

Maybe it seemed like more was against it, because they bagged on Jerry for screwing up the contract. I think they wanted to bag on him and the FO more so than the thought of losing Gregory.
It could have been more 50 / 50, but seems like there were a lot more for him going than staying. Like I said, they wanted bag on the FO more.

Now I do recall some questioning it, more after they signed Fowler and Armstrong, then drafting Williams. Again more so to bag on the FO.

The people pitching a fit were very loud which made it seem more prevalent.
And yes a lot of just general off-season angst was in play.

Beat writers, radio guys and bloggers used it as bait for attention.

It was pretty easy to look at the data: his age, his past performance, his most recent performance (SF), his salary and see that it was likely his only real big money contract and one he wouldn't see the end of.

I was in his corner for a while, but going into FA, I was fine if they moved on from him. I had enough of his lesser production, ill timed penalties, and he was often injured as well.
I was glad Jerry screwed up for once.

for all the idiotic jerry lovers, its clear he WANTED RG back but fortunately in this case his ability to screw up negotiations worked for the Boys. THIS TIME.

We were one Stephen Jones last second contract paragraph insertion from buying that snake oil.

perhaps. that story was/likely will always he said, he said.
i'm not convinced we ever truly matched their dollar offer.
jerry has said he didn't and randy was just too mad for it to have all been about the language which he had signed two other times including the extension 14 months prior.

i believe we told him go get the best offer and let us match it and then they switched it up and declined to match.

but it has also been reported via the agent we matched which I am sure is what he told Denver and why they were celebrating like they won the lottery.

in any case one of two things happened:
1. Dallas got lucky and were saved from sentimentality.
2. Dallas got smart.

Result has been the same.

I was more than done with him.

He wasn't dependable and didn't make anywhere near enough of an impact on the field to deal with everything that came with him.

I said after he signed with Denver that he saved Jerry from himself.

For me, once it looked like there was no loyalty on RG's part, I was done with him. For the most part, I don't think players should have any more loyalty to the team than the team has for them. But Gregory? Jerry had his back for years and years. Literally years and years. Jerry even reworked his contract to get him paid when he wasn't playing. Jerry made it obvious that he believed in RG and support him for SOOO long without it really benefiting the Cowboys. For Gregory to be upset over language in his contract that Jerry had already proven wouldn't hold him back, I just lost any reason to root for him.

I don't wish Gregory any ill-will. But I am no longer invested in whether or not he's successful.

For as unlikable as Stephen is his philosophy of not paying big money to dudes turning 30 years old isn't wrong.
And with Collins, he has a lot of talent but hadn't given you jack for that talent due to suspension and injury over 24 months.
His situation is exactly why contracts have outs and they took it.

I was the driver of the "Dallas got lucky RG left because Dorance is a better every down player at half the cost" train but I am not dunking on Gregory for getting injured.

All that said I will gladly gloat about the Broncos overpaying by quite a lot for a guy turning 30 with no history of sustained performance.

Randy was right to take that cash. Denver shouldn't let his agent back in their building ever again. Sold them snake oil on that deal at that price.

In these situations you certainly have to take those outs and find better value. Same thing will happen at RB next year!

Harder for me to blame them there.
They had cycled through low rent QB options and done jack squat for what feels like a decade. Simien, Flacco. Lock, Bridgewater
They took the shot in the dark with Russ.
That over the hill QB route got them a SB with Manning.

RG has never played a full season. EVER. Mostly likely never will.

Denver's offensive woes right now go well beyond the QB.
But it does beg the question of why pay a QB all that money if you suck around him.

Question was do I miss the player -- not was the cut justified. Yes I think the player would have been an asset in Quinns defense.
