Do we start looking to replace Ellis?

I know we've got a surplus at linebacker, but with Ellis constantly crying for his "Blankie", do we try to address pass rushing OLB in this draft so that if we were to deal him, we could have another guy for depth behind Ware and Spencer?

I live Cliff Avril of Purdue towards the end of the 2nd if we address RB and CB in the first (or with the signing of Pacman, RB and WR).

I don't know that we have much pass rush depth to begin with.

Anthony Spencer >>>>> Cliff Avril

oh and by the way, Spencer is already on our roster

Even if we sign Pac Man I'd draft a CB over an OLB. IMO it's far more likely Pac Man gets in trouble than Ellis, Ware or Spencer get seriously injured. And if we don't get Pac Man, WR is a far bigger need. While taking an OLB in the 2nd won't ruin the draft, what would be the point of drafting someone that early who will rarely see the field? It's not like Avril is some rare prospect, some comparable will be available in the 2nd rd next year and the year after and so on and while the same can be said for any 2nd rd prospect, barring an injury at OLB (keep in mind we can just as easily suffer an injury at WR or CB), we will use a WR more than an OLB.

I don't think we should take an OLB early. If one falls in our lap late, why not, but imo we can't hit all our needs in the draft

Well I certainly agree it's more like Pac gets in trouble, but I don't know that he will. I also don't know that any player taken in the 2nd round is a "one-of-a-kind" prospect, so that's not what I'm getting at. He seems like another talented 3-4 OLB prospect in my mind, however. Not as talented as Spencer, hence his not being a 1st round prospect.

This idea was all conditional on our addressing our major needs: CB, WR and RB through trades and the 1st round. I even think that if we address two of the three needs in the 1st, we can address the 3rd later in the draft and be fine.

We got very lucky that all our positions of need have depth in this draft.

5th or later pick on Curtis Johnson OLB from Clark Atlanta.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind one bit if we traded Ellis. He's near the end of his career, I love Spencer, and I'm tired of Ellis' whining.

yeah...lets run off a guy who just had a double sigit sack season for us less than a yr off an achilles injury

didnt anybody in this forum learn anything from the Giants run through the playoff and super bowl win?

I don't consider trading a guy with 1 or 2 years left for a draft pick who could be here for the next 7 to 10 years running anyone off. I won't mind if he stays. I just don't care if he goes either. At one time I would have.

Ditto. I'm not saying he wasn't productive for us this year, but that kind of play won't last much longer. Wouldn't mind at all if we could get someone that's a player and young.

I actually like Ellis a lot... once the season starts, and he shuts his mouth. But I agree, I'd rather let a guy go one or two years too early than to keep him one or two years too late.

Right now, I'd rather he stay and we added another guy, we probably can't afford the cap hit to trade him anyway, but his value is probably at an all-time high right now.

how do you know he only has a yr or two left? and what are we getting in return? further how do you know we're getting a 7-10 yr contributor with whatever we draft with? That draft pick could easily turn out to be a guy that doesnt even make the roster, much less make any real contribution

I don't "know" any of those things, and neither do you. His age isn't an asset at this stage. Even this off season he has hinted at wanting to be gone. I'm tired of hearing the same song.

I dont give a crap what he says in the offseason as long as he hits opposing QB's come September...the guys a good pass rusher and he helps us win games...

afer a 11 sack season people are still saying to get rid of ellis? i guess people have to find reasons to get rid of players that produce.
Look at what some want to do at RB.
