He’s my favorite tight end ever and the best all around tight end ever in my opinion but… I believe he quit on us. Zeke got suspended in 2017. Then Dak got exposed and we missed the playoffs. I think he didn’t believe in dak and that’s why he retired. Then in 2018, we made the playoffs and won a game. Suddenly he unretires. What are your thoughts?
I nominated this post for the dumbedt of the year

No, he had passion for the game, missed it when he retired so he tried it again, but realized finally he just couldn't do it anymore.

I don't hold anything against any player who hung on too long, maybe I wished they hadn't, especially one of my Cowboys, but I would probably do the same....

I think you should strongly consider Witten's character and personality. A simple evaluation shows that what you're thinking is absolutely impossible. It is not in his makeup to act thusly.

Written was holding the team back… and if Dak got “exposed” he wouldn’t still be a starting QB making $40 million a year, and ranked in the top 7 as he is today. Maybe you should lay off the sauce and go to bed.
No player holds the team back in the NFL. If a player is playing when someone behind him is better, that is on the coaches/mgmt. The idea that it's on the player is ludicrous.

he got a horse laugh about the rug, and wasn't good at the job. he thought he still had something, but he didn't.

Fan narratives can be such a beat down.

Played fifty years, had juicy ESPN offer and took it. Flamed out in booth and went back to ball. Why is this so hard?

You are entertaining I’ll give you that. But not in the way you think.

I don't hold anything against Witten.
That dude gave his heart and soul to this franchise for a very long time.

He had an opportunity to join MNF. Those jobs don't open every year. He stunk, learned TV was not his future, so he decided to play as long as he could.

You're projecting fan opinions on him as motivation. Players don't think like fans.

First ballot Hall of Famer.
Best TE to ever wear a Cowboys uniform,
Father Time caught up with him.
Great role model and a great asset to the community.

Not at all. He was nearing the end and being told he was the next John Madden. He had a great career. It was time.
