I think next to Sean Lee he's the player we miss most on defense. He was our most underrated player while healthy. He won't get you a turnover but you could count on him for QB pressures, tackles short of the first down, reading screen plays and coming up to make tackles for losses.

But most importantly we could count on him to cover the slot WR mano e mano and give help somewhere else. I think more people are starting to realize is worth and see why we gave him that contract. We might have 3 better corners on the outside than him but none of them come close in the slot.

Yes, but how many team could claim to have a bonafide #1 CB like Mike Jenkins ready to step in as the nickle CB?

Scan is inconsistent. Jenkins is a poor tackler. In fact the secondary tackles poorly too often some worse than others. They have been forced to play zone which is not the best game for some.

We're a mess on D right now.

People here always hate the nickle cornerback. It just goes with the territory. Scandrick was allowing one of the lowest completion percentages in the league for a nickle cornerback before he went down. I don't think people on here realize how difficult the nickle spot is. That spot is always going to give up a higher completion rate than the outside spots because the nickle back can't use the sideline to his advantage the way an edge corner can. It's a different position, and guys who are good at it are few and far between. The days of a safety like Woody playing the nickle are long gone. Teams need a specialist there now, that's why Scandrick got the extension he did.

i think we have missed him just from a depth perspective for sure.

however behind Sean Lee i think Carter is the next most important absence, and then Scandrick and Church are 3a and 3b.

yesterday is a perfect example of why Lee and Carter are the two biggest absences b/c they could have held their own on the RBs and TEs

Starters > 3rd corner.

And Ratliff is the cool kid for fans to whip on these days - but him not being on the field is huge. As are Lee, Carter and Church.

Yup

Lee,Carter,Ratliff,Costa, Church are all way higher on the list of missed players.

Nope. He isn't much better if any than the guys out there now. That ain't sayin much either.

Maybe fans wouldn't rip on him so much if he was actually on the field.

Scandrick sucks.. don't miss him at all. Wish he'd stay gone.

Yeah, for real!

Signed,
Bruce Carter

Ripping on a guy that is legitimately injured is lame.

Im not sure you understand.. its not that he's legitimately injured.

Its that he was legitimately injured a month ago and sat on the injury instead of getting surgery right away. If he had gotten the surgery right away, he'd be back on the field by now helping us try and make the playoffs down the stretch run. That's my problem with him.. and the reason i don't have any problem with what Jerry said to him, despite my loathing of Jerry Jones, GM.

Now that is a guy I miss. (Ratliff)

I'd take him over anyone that's missing on defense because of the position he plays.

I'm not sure you understand. It's doubtful he just neglected to have surgery. It's more likely the doctors/team/Ratliff made what they thought was the best decision at that time.

But hey, if it makes you feel like a big tough guy - keep on ripping on the guy.
