What a difference the NFL is today as opposed to pre-social media days. You have Twitter wars between players, between analysts and players, not to mention everyone's business is out there no matter how big or small. Disputes are being handled in the public eye instead of privately with the whole world being able to weigh in and act like a judge. I understand and would argue most of the kids today are overly sensitive, and all about putting there lives out on social media from the food they are eating, to there trip to the laundry mat washing there clothes like anyone cares LOL.
Those of us in our 40's and 50's are probable in a weird place right now since we remember the NFL clearly before the social media craze, yet we are young enough to not be intimidated on learning how to use social media. Kids are gonna learn the hard way later in life the impact this can have on there lives if they are not careful. That is an advantage old timers who have experienced both worlds have and also is probably why i expect a wide variety of responses & opinions to this topic.
I for one am a little torn on this subject i love the fact we can get instant/ basically real time NFL updates like draft news, trade rumors, injury updates, and pictures and videos from camp. I think these types of uses have given the fans a great way to feel more involved with there favorite teams or players and just really improved the overall fun of the season/off season.
What i Hate is the other uses for ex. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...lls-apology-from-carpenters-wife-bs/#comments This kind of stuff is where Social Media loses me it is pointless and only causes more problems and debates/ arguments. Both people are wrong but it never needed to get to this level. Pre-social media days you would have never heard of something like this it would have stayed in the locker room and this is when i miss simpler times LOL.
I mean what would the Cowboys of the 90's been like if Social Media had been what it is today ! I kinda of cringe the thought. Haley and his locker room bullying and antics what if video's came out would he have been suspended ? I will leave it there LOL since the 90's teams had some other issues to put it kindly. They are appreciated for the great team that they were.
I wonder how players today feel since most of the world today is me me me which is a direct reflection of what social media stands for LOOK AT ME. I heard Shannon Sharpe on undisputed say he was kinda glad there was no Social Media when he played could have been a distraction. Does it detract from players today and there preparation for games or there training?. I wish we had more player opinions from back in the day to just have more opinions. I mean it is far easier for players now to get in trouble ? Most things back in the day were kept in the locker room now its broadcast for the world to see.
Has Social Media had a negative impact on the NFL since ratings are down. Is the petty stuff like i gave an example of above turning people off to the NFL. Is it that the NFL is now in your face 24 hours a day and now people are being burnt out ? all are legitimate questions i think.
Everything in life has its good and bad points, that is just reality. I for one have gotten more good things out of Social Media with regards to the NFL then bad, but maybe thats a reflection of my age and where i am in life, since i stay out of the side of social media i have no interest in or i think is not worth my time and attention.
Whats your opinion?
