Do you own an LED tv?

I just bought a new Samsung 46" LED TV.

Does your TV show white blotches in dark light? When scenes get dark at night I see these white clouds or blotches. There's about 4 or 5 of them. I've read this is somewhat normal. I'm wondering if I should try and exchange the TV for a new one or if this is something you just have to deal with.

Any suggestions?

What brand did you buy? I buy almost exclusively Samsung due to their bang for the buck is so much better than most TV manufacturers. Meaning, they generally have the best display quality combined with hardware quality for the buck.

As for owning an LED, I just bought a Samsung 55" LED for $799 and I don't have any white blotches.

Yes, I get flashlighting during a dark screen however it has to be almost 100% black for me to see it. I have a Samsung 60in and absolutely love it.

Samsung, 46" LED for $799 on sale. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN40ES6100-40-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B0076M04QU

Have you watched TV in a pitch black room at night and seen some dark scenes with no patches?

Yeah, it really only shows during really dark scenes at night. I tried loosening the screws in the back where I attached the stand to see if that helped. It seems like it did a little but that could be completely unrelated.

I have a 26 inch Samsung LED TV and I don't recall noticing anything like that. I haven't used it in about a year though :/ as it's been sitting in the corner of my room. I'm about to fire it back up this semester though.

When I bought an LED TV a couple years back the type of lighting the TV used was a major selling point. The issue you're having sounds like a result of the edge-lighting mechanism.

My understanding is that, as opposed to back-lit TVs, edge lit TVs illuminate whole sides of the television at a time meaning you get a reduction in lighting fidelity when there are only a few illuminated pixels against a dark/black background. I imagine small irregularities could exacerbate the problem, which results in the blotches you're seeing.

A few years back Samsung televisions were notorious for their lack of quality control so depending on how serious the issue is it may be worth returning.

I had one for a month and returned it for a PLasma. blotches-splattered colors-motion blur, soap opera effect were just a few issues I had with it. Replaced it with a Plasma. The best picture out there without a doubt. The technology for LED leaves a lot to be desired.

Have no idea what you bought, but any quality name LED TV won't have any of those issues. I own a full back lit Samsung and it blows away anything except for the plasmas, I wanted a LED for a couple of my own preferences.

I actually like the soap opera effect. It feels more realistic to me.

IMO, you can find better tv's around the same price. Maybe even drop down to a 55" and get better options and performance.

Thanks

I am not sold on 3D but Internet TV is nice to have.

Sony 60 inch Internet TV is 1499 at local Costco store.

55 is good but I want 60 because the room I will put this in is big.

LED 60" here. I haven't noticed any of those issues with mine. The only thing I can't stand with these LEDs is that standard mode they come in where they make everything pop out the screen, it looks terrible. I switched my setting to clear so I get a realistic picture. Besides that it's solid.

The thing is...3D and internet TV will be on most new TV's in the near future. If you are going to shell out that kind of dough, might as well join the new crops of televisions.

It is kind of like buying a new car in 2012 with an expected body style change coming out the next year with better options. Would of, should of and could of :)

It's part of the technology, and one of those things that some people notice and some don't. When you really research it is impossible to find a perfect TV and both LED and plasma have pros/cons, you just have to decide which ones don't bother you.

Avsforum is a great resource like chuch said.

Also you can turn off the "soap opera effect" by turning down the refresh rate to 60Hz, on Samsungs this is sometimes called AutoMotionPlus, just turn it to off/normal or 60.

The Internet on my Samsung tv is horrible. Constant problems with the apps. Luckily when it's acting funny I have my Xbox and a Blu-Ray player that has access to the Internet. The tech for Internet TV is lacking. I personally wouldn't drop a lot of extra $$ on a tv just for the Internet. Focus on all of the other features.

How are LED tv's good for gaming and sports compared to Plasma?

I have a 42" plasma, and looking at a 60" LED
