Do You Think Garrett Could Cost us Another Playoff Run?

It's been two years running and low and behold, our coach seems to be our worst enemy at times. Do you think we'll have another year, going into next season, where our coach could be the most costly factor and, once again, cost us a shot in the playoffs?

Absolutely. I mean heck, we'd have 2 Super Bowls with anyone else.

Garrett's in-game issues will be resolved if they make Callahan the play caller.

It comes from the top, eh? I can buy into that to some degree, mostly because he's responsible for hiring a bad coach in Garrett.

Perhaps, but what other aspects will Jason Garrett actually be effective with. I'm thinking about this and other than gaining yards between the 20s, I can't come up with anything. It's almost like we have all these good coaches so Garrett can stand around and twiddle his thumbs on the sidelines and say "process" at press conferences.

Not this thread again.

What did I do to deserve this thread being resurrected.

Why don't we talk about what Garrett is doing or not doing to make the team better for the upcoming year. That is a worthwhile topic. Garrett is the coach this year no matter how many of you want someone else. If he is successful he will probably get another year. If he is not then we're probably going to get another year of Garrett but might get someone else. Jerry has put a lot on the line for his belief in Garrett and I"m not convinced he is going to give up on it even if we miss the playoffs again.

IMO, the team has gotten continuously better from 2010 to 2011 and 2012 despite getting younger and suffering several key injuries. There is now a young core whereas there were no good, young, established players when Garrett took over - not a single one. Dez and Sean Lee were here but neither were very good players when Garrett took over. Sean Lee had hardly seen the field at all up to that point and Dez could only run a couple of different patterns. Basically all of the good players were Parcells vets and they had started their decline at the time that Garrett came to power so he has had to steadily improve the rest of the team just to avoid the team from getting markedly worse. Look how much Ware, Rat, Gurode, Bigg, Free, Felix, Miles and TNew have fallen off since the 2009 season when we last made the playoffs. So you add that drop + minimial cap space + the injury plagued 2012 season and I think the coaches did a good job to get us to 8-8.

I don't think Garrett has proven he is an upper echelon coach but I also don't believe he is holding us back. The biggest impediment this organization continues to face is Jerry Jones' mismanagement of player personnel decisions.

It's not you. It's the author. He has an obsession with this subject. It's somehow therapeutic I think for him every couple months. No harm really... :)

I'm talking about things Garrett actually does and doesn't do that really cost us games. He has cost us way too many games single-handedly to just let this slide. We're 8-8 two years in a row when we could have easily been 10-6 both years.

And you sort of contradict yourself here. You say we've gotten better, but our record doesn't indicate that. Certainly the way we've played doesn't indicate that. We don't finish games and win. Last year was a terrible coaching year for us, and the year before that was as well.

I'm trying to find positives in the midst of it all, because I think we're still good. But I also think our window is closing for guys like Witten, Ware, Rat, Romo, Austin, etc.

For me, this is a do or die year--not just for Garret, but for the team's personnel as a unit as well.

I have never been a Garrett proponent, but if i am being fair, I believe he has had a lot to do with the positive turnover of the team since he has been in charge...I give him credit for trying to build a team his way...I feel that even though JJ and SJ are making the moves, JG has a lot to do with it....if we end up fixing the OLine in the draft and FA, then I believe that the 3-year plan put in place by Garrett will help the team to be successful....now, that doesn't mean that he can coach, but hopefully the coaching staff and players now in place will get us more wins...I hope that when it comes time for the critical decisions during the game, that he will listen to his coaches

time will tell

Well, it's true. I don't have much faith in Garrett and I don't like him as a coach at all. And similar people said similar things to me when Romo was the 3rd string guy behind Henson, et cetera. I was reaching, there was no chance he'd ever be anything, et cetera. Turns out, I happen to have a talent for seeing things for what they are.

Not to mention, I said this last year. That's very true. Call it an obsession if you'd like. But when you look at the reality, Garrett cost us another chance at making the playoffs, just like I suspected he would.

I won't discuss it again. Others will no doubt. Have at it. Don't forget to bring up "icing his own kicker." Peace to you... :)

I always forget: in the paranoid fantasy world, which games did Jason Garrett cost us again? Is this the old iced-his-own-kicker and got-conservative-against-NE junk again, or is it something else?

In your message board poster opinion, do you think we'll be worse or better under JG next year?
