Do you think Jimmy would have retired the Triplets?

I'm breaking this off the if JJ stayed thread.

Do you think JJ would have traded or retired the Triplets late in the 90's if he stayed?

Aikman talked like he would have and think he was right about JJ.

He and Smith were definitely not having HoF seasons towards the end of their careers.

^ probably bad choice of words on my part.

Meant traded, cut, or retired them.

As opposed to letting Troy, Michael, and Emmett play well past their peak which is what happened.

I don't see how he would have any say to be able to make a player retire.

After the record 5 consecutive SBs that they would've won together...highly doubtful. :D

I can see Jimmy getting players that at the very least would light a fire when any of the Triplets slowed down.

Contrast this to Romo's backup.

I'd assume he'd do what Parcels did with Emmitt. Both Michael and Troy were basically injury retirements. Not sure either of those guys would have ended up differently, anyway.

This,
JJohnson was always churning for more or improved talent no matter what the position or player. Johnson separated himself enough from the players and JJ to have the authority let them go. When he traded Steve Walsh to the Saints (a brilliant move), Walsh was one of his supposed "favorites" from Miami. He could do it with the blink of an eye if it upgraded the teams present or future overall.

I don't know. With the dolphins he was GM/HC and he did not get rid of Marino even though his skill level was on the downhill side in large part because of injuries. It is one thing getting rid of mid level talent than it is HOF caliber player even when the HOF player is near the end.

If you have a better replacement then yea, you make the switch.

That was not the case with Marino in Miami. And JJ left and dumped that task on his good buddy Wannstedt.

Yes. He would have ran the team the exact same way Belichick is running the Patriots right now.

If i'm not mistakin, Jimmy left because Jerry wanted control as GM. So if Jimmy had stayed, I highly doubt Jerry would have let Jimmy continue as the GM (or the decision maker on drafts). So no, Jerry wouldn't have traded the triplets.

Jimmy would have some regret but he would pull the trigger if the Triplets under performed as he has always preached production/playmaking. Jimmy is all about winning. Cannot win with mediocrity. Jerry on the other hand ....

Maybe he would have done something with Aikman and Smith but no way Irvin. Irvin was a leader who was created under Johnsons tutelage. You can't find guys who know, understand, teach and lead players on the field and locker room like Irvin.

Mind you, J.Johnson would have managed the talent he built way better then Jerry and company. If he would have stayed Aikman and Smith would have played much better then after Jimmy.

E.Smith still had great numbers post super bowl xxx. He wasn't the problem.

Aikman didn't have the line in front of him or the weapons post Jimmy. He was a sitting duck at times because of that.

It really is a team game.

The OL declined post Jimmy, I don't believe he would have allowed that to happen. The team likely would have won at least one more SB maybe.

That said, Irvin and Aikman likely would have retired for medical reasons like they did anyway and Emmitt would never have briefly left and just retired before it got ugly. Heads held high by all 3.

Jimmy would not have taken kindly to Irvin and his troubles.

He would have ridden Troy and Emmitt as long as he could, which would have been about 1999.
