I'm not too excited about Kosier, but the rest of the OL ought to be an imrpovement over last year. If we pass to set up the run teams will not be able to stack the LOS on us.

I'm hoping that they will be significantly better than last year.

I feel confident that they won't be any worse.

JJ and BP do. Good enough for me. Otherwise they are going to look pretty silly again this next off season answering all those questions about the o-line again.

This subject has been analyzed to death and the truth is we don't have a clue. Can anyone positively answer these questions?

Question #1: Will Flo will be back to full strength and back to his 2003 form?

Question #2: Will Kosier be as good as expected and will he be able to fill the shoes of Larry Allen?

Question #3: Will Al Johnson actually be stronger and be able to maintain the weight and muscle that he gained in the off season?

Question #4: Will Marco Rivera be back to form after the surgery on his elbows and the back problems he suffered with last year?

Question #5: Will Pettiti have improved enough to be able to protect Bledsoe and hold on to his RT job?

Question #6: If Gurode has to fill in for either Johnson or Rivera will he be up to the task mentally?

Question #7: If Fabini has to play in place of either Pettiti at RT or Adams at LT will he be healthy and up to the task?

Question #8: If Fabini ends up having to play one side or the other will our starter on the other side be able to hold up his end?

Question #9: If Kosier goes down or is simply not as good as advertised will Peterman or Proctor be able to step in and protect Bledsoe?

If you have the answers to all of those questions then you will have the answer to the original question posed in this thread. If you don't have those answers then we will have to wait for the season to find out.

I rewatched the first six games of last season.

We weren't too awful in pass protection.

The Eagle game in particular was a clinic on pass protection. I don't think DB hit the turf once.

Pettiti got lots of help from Campbell against Kearse. It's amazing what a healthy Flozell did for our offense. We can always wonder "what if".

This season will be an improvement across the board, but there are pros and cons going into next season concerning the OL.

Cons:
-Will Flo be his old self?
-no Larry Allen...yes, he wasn't the "old LA"...but when motivated, he was still pretty darn good
-Kosier? Is he the journeyman that's played for three teams in three years, or is he just about ready to blossom?
-Al Johnson has added weight, but will he be able to maintain it over the course of 20 games? He was pushed around towards the end of last season.
-Rivera has had a back injury....sometimes players never really recover from those
-Pettiti, at times, looked overwhelmed last season. He was among the lead leaders in sacks given up last year. The competition for RT are two guys that suffered injuries.

Pros:
-Flo is back. And even if he isn't up to Pro-Bowl form, he still will be better than Torrin Tucker.
-The staff and scouting department apparently sees something in Kosier. They've had a good track record lately. He isn't as powerful as LA, but at this point in their careers, Kosier is more mobile, and should be able to get into the second level.
-Al Johnson has added close to twenty pounds. He has some potential as a center.
-Pettiti is in his second year, and has worked hard this offseason. He flashed ability at times last year.
-Rivera is a year removed from his back injury. All reports have him back to full strenght.
-There should be better depth at tackle with Fabini and Columbo.

Also, the addition of TO and Julius Jones should ease the pressure on our OL. Glenn, TO, and Witten should get open quicker. TO is a guy that can take a quick pass off a blitz, break a CBs tackle, and score. A couple of big plays, and teams will be more reluctant to blitz.

If JJ stays healthy, then the running game should help keep Bledsoe upright.

Lots of question marks here. I don't blame the media pundits (Gosselin, etc) that don't rank us as high as Washington or Carolina. There are so many "what ifs".

Without a doubt, the OL is crucial to whether or not we're Super Bowl contenders.

Two of our worst Olinemen are gone, Larry Allen and Terrible Tucker.

Allen went off to make his new line of shoes with Nike. Since he whiffed so many times last year they branded it as "air" Allen.

Thank you for all the good years Larry. But you just didn't cut it last year.

unles Rivera is a mordern medical marvel I will say he will always have an issue with his BACK even when he is done playing!!!! Every sport has BACK injuries and in every sport its the end of the player as we know it!!! Say goodbye to RIVERA!!!

Rivera would have been cut in the offseason if it wasnt for the MAJOR CAP hit!!! instead we cut LA and people actually think LA played bad last year!!!

this team will lead the league in passes on 3rd and 1!!!

I haven't seen it mentioned yet so I'll bring it up. Tony Sparano was coaching a new position last year and I didn't think he did too bad considering injuries etc. He's got a year under his belt and I don't know much about him but Parcells likes him enough to make him assistant head coach so Payton couldn't bring him to the Saints. Most good lines don't have superstar players, they are just smart, well coached, and play well as a unit. The New England Partriots come to mind. You don't really notice them but the offense seems to do pretty well. I'm hoping that's the kind of line were building with Sparano and the players we brought in. Time will tell.

No way we target Kosier unless we did our homework on him. I looked up his stats and they were very good indeed. Almost no sacks or penalties and he was moved around quite a bit. He is entering the prime of his career. Another thing, I think it was mentioned that he was the fastest Guard in the draft his year. However, he only weighed 294 entering the league.

I think Kosier could end up being a rather nice addition to our O-line. Now of course I am guessing, but I have a good feeling about the guy. Parcells and the staff of coaches obviously saw something in Kosier to warrant signing him to a somewhat lucrative contract.

We definitely need to stay healthy at all positions in the trenches to be successful this year. That goes for both sides of the ball.
