Do you want to try to be great or just be good?

That's the question Jerry needs to ask himself.

Jerry takes a lot of crap, and some of it's justified. But even with him as GM and McClay there helping, they tend to put together some talented teams, at least talented enough to win. Other than a random year or there, they are rarely awful and rarely awful for a long stretch. They are good. Have not been great since the mid 90s.

Now we can keep McCarthy and Dak and probably be good again next year. Certainly not a SB contender but likely good enough to get a WC spot and depending on what Philly does, maybe contend for another divisional title. If that's what Jerry is OK with, then fine.

But to be great, you need to bite the bullet and pull the plug on both Dak and McCarthy. You have to be willing to eat a year or two of mediocrity to be great.

I don't think Jerry is willing to do that. I think Jerry believes that just being good is good enough and that eventually luck will kick in and we'll make a run. Problem is, he's had no luck for nearly 3 decades.

Jerry has already spoken on this. He's made it very clear where his priorities lie, and the exact words he used were 'relevant' and 'interesting'. Do you understand what that means?

Jerry doesn't give a damn about the big prize, he's just in it for the hunt. As long as the team can continue to be competitive he's fine. There's no desire or ambition for anything more. MM is safe because of the last 3 regular season records. Quinn is probably safe as well, but chances are good he takes another job. Worst of all, Dak is going to get extended for his ability to beat up on bad teams and this new contract is going to be very crippling to the team.

Great time to be a fan, huh?

Unfortunately Jerry will keep them both

To me Quinn and Dak absolutely have to leave. I would get rid of Mccarthy too
I am thinking Quinn is likely gone.

I think we are going to have to stomach the other two. McCarthy has one year left and Jerry loves that thinking it somehow motivates his HCs when they are coaching for a contract. It's stupid but no one ever accused Jerry Jones of being football smart. Dak? That's worse. Because Jerry is likely going to have to handcuff him to the franchise for more years given his cap hit next year. Ugh.

Lol yeah those stats will surely be brought up my Jerry and how great Dak was this year against certain teams, time to move on. Look at these younger QBs

I used to buy into the theory of just getting into the playoffs enough and let a little luck kick in after that, but I think we are seeing that good playoff teams are just built differently than good regular season teams. This year was the perfect year for this Cowboys team at home for the first two games to at least make the NFCC game, but they get bounced the first time an opponent punches them in the mouth. This team in its current from just isn't built for playoff football.

What sucks about it is that they lose to teams they should beat.

You are correct on all 3 statements here.
But sadly, due to the accuracy of statement #3, we are doomed.

All I know is, if next season any member of the homer party keeps babbling about regular season wins and about how good this team is (you know who you are) I will just fall back and laugh my arse off. One of these excessive movie bad guy laughs. Each time. Because their act has just become so pityful. Now even after those last two embaressing outings in the playoffs I was still tolerating it because somehow the team really made the impression of a contender during the season. But the game against GB has once and for all outed them as frauds. And they will continue to be frauds if nothing changes. Even a 17-0 season won't mean crap. And whoever STILL cannot accept this simple fact is nothing but a clown.

New QB.
New HC
New DC
Trade the big names for picks
rebuild

Anything else is just a waste of more time. And yes, I don't have a problem with a couple of bad seasons if real progress is visible.

In fairness, I am not as emotional about Quinn but he probably needs to go as well.

We need to blow this up. It's not working. Jerry has now gone through multiple HCs and OCs and it's just not working. Dak is what he is, Jerry is finding out when you hire coaches that are willing to let you meddle, they typically aren't all that good.

Blow it up. Use next year as a Lance evaluation period. Load up on picks by trading some key assets.

I'd give my left nut for a bright, young offensive guru HC like a McDaniel or LaFleur to work with Lance next year to see what we have.

Relevant? Yeah, probably to some extent. Interesting though? I feel like the interesting part of this team is dying out quickly.

IDK what Jerry will do but at some point you have to reinvent this squad to some extent to continue to sell this garbage to the fans. A HC move would be the easiest way to do that IMO. I just can't imagine another year running back the same squad and fans being interested. Maybe we just are not far enough removed yet for me to be able to get up for this group again, but I don't see it happening with a the same squad plus a few minor moves this offseason.

Almost every team(Might be every, not sure) that is great has some residual players from when they sucked and drafted in the front of the draft. Joe Burrow, Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett, Nick Bosa, those guys come from sucking. And it's just inherently harder to win w/o a couple of those game changers.

Jerry has always refused to break it down. Look at where DET is now. Super bowl contenders. Why? Because they traded away talent to get more resources. We have never done that w/ Jerry, and it costs us dearly. Sometimes you just gotta suck to get good.

It's time to trade assests, stack picks, build one side of the ball, rinse and repeat. Get a coach, draft a qb1. Then build the other side. I would have a team that can win in spite of the qb instead of one that can't win without one.

Keep in mind...every team begins the season with a couple of major priorities, winning their division and home-field advantage. In other words, get to the playoff with the chips in your favor for the best chance at the Super Bowl. Say what you want but MM is getting us in the playoffs. To fire him would be very similar to why the Bucs fired Tony Dungy.

Following the 2002 season, the Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII, their first appearance in the championship game. Dungy was fired after the prior season and replaced with Jon Gruden, because he could not quite get the team there.

If Jerry really wanted to win the big one, we don't draft players such as Sam Williams, Schooner, Jaylon, LVE. Those guys aren't what it takes to make a super bowl run.

Hey, we got Lamb and Parsons!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes we do, great pieces. But those great pieces are nullified if you get owned at the LOS.

Relevant? Yeah, probably to some extent. Interesting though? I feel like the interesting part of this team is dying out quickly.
You have to consider what Jerry meant when he said it. Both terms, relevant and and interesting, are tied to Jerry's desire for media attention. When Jerry and the team are being talked about in the media, this is when he is most content. To get there the team only has to be competitive. So he builds a team that is just good enough to look great against lesser opponents, but doesn't stand a chance against teams like SF, Baltimore, and now we can apparently add GB back to the list.
