Does Al Johnson have any trade value?

The fact that Dallas seems to be pushing hard to keep Gurode has me thinking....always a dangerous thing for me....if we have the chance to sign Mawae, who old or not, is an upgrade over Johnson, do we cut Al? Or would anyone give a 2nd day pick for him? Remember Al's rookie deal ends after this season. I thought earlier Gurode would be the guy we'd dump if we were looking to upgrade the center spot but that doesn't appear to be the case. Or does BP just stand pat and hope Al improves?

Not sure why there is all this negative talk surrounding Johnson. I thought I saw a breakdown of sacks allowed this past year and Johnson allowed 0. He just finished his 2nd full year. Some guys treat him like Jacob Rogers around here and I really don't think he deserves the "Rogers" treatment. Just my thoughts. A lot of people were sticking up for Peterman when I said he was terrible and no one seems to care that he hasn't played a snap.

He might have some value - IMO he's better suited for a team with a mobile QB.

That being said, I don't think his trade value is very high - maybe a second day pick if we're lucky. I'd rather keep him around as a backup C if we do indeed sign/draft someone else.

Why didn't we try to trade Glover???

cause it would cost us 1.5mil to keep him long enough to trade him.

because that team would have to pick up his original contract... no team was going to pony up that much dough for Glover because he was nearing the end of his original Cowboy deal... an interested party would wait for him to be cut and give him a new cap friendly deal... Glover is still got some well deserved value to a team in need of a good DT, but he's probably not worth his bonus he'd get this year in Big D...

why didn't we trade Glover? b/c things these days are so money-oriented that it allows for about 0% reasoning behind moves other than "money".

see: Mavericks letting Finley and Nash (last year's MVP) walk for nothing.

Glover will get a big contract, and he deserves it. I dont think he has any resentment towards the Cowboys, it was business. He doesn't work in the 3-4. He will get a big contract, after yet another Pro Bowl year.

Sad to see him go, but that's the way hte NFL is these days

Cowboys | Team exchanges proposals with Gurode

Todd Archer, of the Dallas Morning News, reports the Dallas Cowboys have exchanged proposals with the agent for potential free agent OG Andre Gurode. The team liked Gurode's work at center during the 2005 season.

Who says they didn't like his work at guard for his two starts? One start against the Rams was poor... but the whole line played poorly against them. But his game against the Panthers was better than any game Rivera had all season.

Like I said in another post -- if the team LIKED Gurode's work at center then the team must have freaking LOVED Johnson's work.

Yes - Lets trade our starting Center. And start our backup who has already been benched by Parcells in the past and has a 4 year track record of mental lapses and underachievment.

Miki - Parcells said it was a mistake playing Gurode at Guard (last year). He loved his guard play so much we went out and Signed Rivera and moved Gurode to backup Center.

This is what it is - Gurode is a versatile backup.

He allowed 1.25 sacks in 2005. That's good. 6 holding penalties. That's not good. Johnson is not terrible but if your center has trouble anchoring it means the QB may have nowhere to step up away from the outside rush. That can make bad tackle play seem even worse. If the NT can control the center 1 on 1 it frees up the LB's to shoot gaps and shut down the running game. Johnson has good agility but limited strength. That's why AG got in as much as he did- BP likes AJ's head and AG's strength.

The hard play at Gurode COULD be insurance against LA refusing to restructure. It COULD be insurance against Rivera continuing to regress. Both are possibilities but since I believe we will use a 1st day pick on a guard it wasn't my take. Lack of a comfort zone with AJ going into the last year of his contract was my take.

Would we look at a 35 year old Mawae? If we're not willing to shell out for Bentley (my guess is we're not) it's a real possibility. Or we may be happier with AJ than I think.

That was yesterdays beating:

I said and provedmy statement that Bledsoe improved the team.
I posted links and facts.

*** went from 6-10 to 9-7 and contender

***More points scored and offensive yardage in 2005 than 2004.

***Best offensive production in Dallas since 1998/99 era.

And yes - behind a line that struggled with Flo on IR, & Starting an injured Rookie Tackle (Petitti)

This is a team on the upswing.
