Does anybody else think we need to trade for a pass rusher?

Okay, first of all before everyone thinks I'm too negative let me say that I am drinking the cool-aid for the first time since 07. This team is really fun to watch and I think they are for real...BUT...I think if/when we get in the playoffs and face QB's like Rodgers/Foles or possibly later (fingers crossed) Rivers/Brady/P. Manning, I think this lack of pass rush will be our Achilles heel.

I know Lawrence is only supposed to miss 2 more games, but are we really going to put all our hope for a pass rush in a rookie that hasn't played yet? I know people will say we get pressure and force the QB to throw the ball away even though we haven't got sacks but..
1. The pressure has been there some but it hasn't been that consistent.
2. Let's say it's 2nd and 8. You get pressure and the qb throws it away. 3rd and 8. vs. You get a sack and its 3rd and 14. You can really completely end a drive with just 1 sack. Not to mention qb's fumble when they don't see the hit coming quite often.

Honestly, I think Mincey seems to be our best pass rusher. He seem to get the most pressure but doesn't have the speed to get home if they see him coming. I think a consistent speed rusher on the other side could help him and others get home more. I know Spencer, Melton, and Crawford seem to be getting better each week but pass rushers are like corners, you can never have too many.

I don't really know what we could afford cap wise and I don't really know who would be available. I do know if I were the GM I would take a look around though. I think we are a legit edge rusher away from really being a front runner as a Superbowl contender. If it were me I would hate to get into the playoffs and it be our demise knowing I could have done something about it before the trade deadline.

No because there are no pass rushers out there worth making a trade for. In the end we just lose a draft pick. I think Dallas will have to deal with what they have this season and look for a DE within the draft.

Can't fix what isn't broken. Defense plays well as a unit. Leave it alone. We have some guys coming back from injury other than DLaw that will also help when they get their game legs back.

Pass rushers are a premium in the league, no team has guy stashed on their roster if he is any good. So you would give up a premium (RW11 or Galloway trade premium) to get that player, and then you end up back at 8-8 mediocrity in few years.

If it's cheap, yeah why not.

But pass rushers don't come cheap.

Bingo, to get a quality pass rusher we will have to fork over to much and for a avg you end up with nothing better than what we have now but a player or draft choice less than you had before.

No, but for a reasonable price, I'd be interested in Suh if Detroit is listening.

Meh, I think our DTs have been playing well. Crawford and McClain will continue to get better. DE is the problem.

Assuming some other team's DL is being used as bait, who would you trade from the Cowboys? I am not giving up any OL, TEs, WRs, or QBs. They are all off the table. I'm assuming that no one will want any of our defensive players other than LB Carter, LB McClain, LB Durant and CBs Patmon and Moore. And they are all off the table.

So, I'm left with RB Randle and Dunbar. I'll listen to trade offers for either but you better be offering something good. I'm likely to pull both off the trade table. Anyway, RB value has dropped significantly so I don't expect much for either.

So, who are you willing to trade? And I am definitely not trading a draft pick. No way. Not even considering it.

I would very much like to see what Sam has to offer, however I doubt we will see anything in the way of a trade. Just too costly, and the return is usually not worth the cost in my opinion.

I think we just have to roll with what we have. Unless a team gives away a star player for a mid-round draft pick (see Percy Harvin), I don't see us making any moves.

On the bright side:
1) we do get pressure
2) Spencer has been getting more snaps each week
3) Lawrence will be back
4) Crawford is getting better at DT each week
5) Melton and T. McClain are getting healthier
6) Bruce Carter can add an edge rush when he comes back

Honestly the fact that Michael Sam hasn't been called up makes me wonder what he is(or isn't showing). He was pretty productive in the pre-season, and we need some edge. My guess is that the thin nature of our LB core is having an effect on the DL.

I think that is what the Cowboys are counting on. Meantime the defense has played very well.

No, we're not one player away from winning the super bowl.

True. We are one PASS RUSHER away, maybe two. Otherwise there is no reason, NONE, that the Cowboys cannot contend for the SB THIS season.

We gave up a 2nd and 3rd rounder for a pass rusher. Hopefully he comes in and does something.

Who would you cut?
