How to convert gifs into icons?? I like to customize my desktop icons, using Cowboys and Horns logos and such, but there aren't many icons out there for download... I do have a whole bunch of small gifs that I think would work though, including an Orioles logo, and the logos of all of the Super Bowls the Cowboys won... I'd like to see if I couldn't convert them to icons...

I ask now because my hard drive died over the weekend, and I just installed a new one, and I'm trying to get it set up just the way I want it... already got my sounds customized, including the "Texas Fight" song when Windows opens, and "The Eyes of Texas" when it closes...

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer...

Try some of these programs...

http://www.passtheshareware.com/c-icons.htm

I have heard that microangelo (found on that page) is a very good program for Icons.

Here is another place to download microangelo

http://www.click-now.net/downloads07.htm

However I think all of these are just evaluation programs aka shareware so do not know how functional they might be.

I am not sure if this other site is still up but here is a link...

linkworld.to/fosi/ Notice there is no http or www in the address...do not put that in as the address I put there is how it really is.

I can not get to it at work because they have filtering software, and have not been there in a while so not sure if it is still there, or if it still has the program microangelo...but at one time it did have that program.....be aware of two things if you go to this site.

1. They have a couple of small banners (not popups) to porn sites.

2. The programs on the site contained pirated software and almost all of the programs are fully functional.

If it does have the program and you download it....you will have to PM me about a thing or two.

Hope that helps.

if you got Xp maybe you should try style xp

Hey, I'd like to look into that, got any idea where I can find it?? Is it a bundled feature with Windows XP??

The Microangelo works pretty well, I have a floppy disk full of new icons for my PC... but it is a 21 day evaluation program, and I'd like to find some freeware... I did find a program called PixelToolkit 1.1 over on download.com, it got pretty good reviews from most of the users who commented for stability and ease of use... the latter is particularly important to me, I'm not real strong in the graphics area... Microangelo was pretty easy to use, I just had to convert any jpegs to bitmaps (using Paint) before I could convert them to icons... I'm thinking I'll download PixelToolkit tonight, and play around with it some...

Anyway, now I have a whole batch of icons I can use to customize my desktop... Orioles' logos, both old and new, Cowboys' logos, Longhorns' logos, Virginia Cavaliers' logos and Washington Wizards' logos... even a log for the UTEP Miners...

My biggest problem now is figuring out how on earth to change the icons for the shortcuts to MS Word and MS Excel... for some reason, on Office XP the command to change the icon is shaded (inactive)... earlier versions of Office allowed you to customize the icons... if any of you computer gurus can tell me how to work around that, I'd be even more appreciative...

Silverbear.. Style XP is really awesome. I've been using it for about six months now. Just make sure that you have the most current one if you have SP2 installed on XP. The previous version won't work with XP SP2 at all and the latest has a few bugs, but nothing you can't work around.
