Does anyone believe the players respect Stephen?

He doesn't own anything. He's his father's secretary.

He’s heir to the throne and will be in charge when Jerry kicks the bucket. Stephen has a lot of influence and if he didn’t Johnny Manziel would have been a Cowboy.

And none of that makes him an owner. Which is what you said.

Take the L.

He’s been referred to as one of the owners by those in the Dallas media. He’s Jerry’s right hand man and his son which makes him one of the owners. Everyone in the Jones family has a piece of the team. You don’t like it…too bad!

The Cowboys players aren't clueless when it comes to being aware of what this FO is and isn't capable of. They realize just as much or more than we do what ails this team. I don't believe for one minute that it doesn't have a negative effect on them mentally. Team morale is surely low overall, and certainly, for ample reasons. When Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson got cut, they fully knew what to expect. It's not a pretty picture! It all gets discussed in private.

He won't take the L. Everything he says here is just not true. Just totally made up.

Check this out. Whatever your Dad owns you own. In fact, it's spread out throughout the entire family. Everyone gets a piece.

Break the news to him.

Fans.

Stephen owns nothing.

yep, and everybody got all defensive when Jay Ratcliff was about to kick Jerry's butt in the locker room. Everybody hated Jay for that. smh. Jay should have been happy playing out of position and getting called out by a toupee-wearing old ego manic who doesn't know football. Great fans.
Interesting take. If I recall, Jerry entered the lockeroom after a big win where the defense played great. Several players on defense played great. Jay either did not play or was not very effective due to a groin issue. Jerry had just PAID Jay, so he rolled up on him essentially saying (or what it sounded like to Jay) "you need to earn your paycheck". And Jay, knowing how hurt he was, went ballistic. It was not enough that we won and several people played well...Jerry is BIG on the guys with the biggest paychecks playing great. This is how he has ALWAYS been.

So if you have a lowly paid WR...get a bunch of catches because your highly paid WR is doubled team, or ran clearing routes, or was going against the other teams best CB.....people that understand football would know that the lowly paid WR excelled due to the presence of the highly paid WR the other team respected more and focused on more. We don't need our owner coming into the lockeroom and telling the highly paid WR he needs to do better. The coaches and player will find a way to get the ball...but not at the expense of team success.

Jerry seriously thinks anyone with a high price tag is a star and can succeed no matter the circumstances. That is NOT the case in the ultimate team sport. He also thinks that if I give you a big paycheck, you can't/should not get injured...and you should play through it and you should play at the level you would play if you were healthy. I'm telling you, this guy has learned ZERO in 25+ years being the chief architect of this franchise. I can remember like yesterday him sweetening Romos deal because the OL was not very good...as if paying Romo more would mean Romo would get sacked less. I remember like yesterday him believing Romo would play another 5 years after paying him...and Romo being knocked into retirement 2 plays into pre-season....its almost as if he believed more money would extend Romos career and heal Romos degenerative back.

In sports, in the ultimate team game, the biggest paycheck does not mean the best player. This is not boxing or tennis or golf. Too many variables factor in. Players get paid based on their market value. Plenty of teams pay their best guys, add top free agents, and build a complete roster with the SAME salary cap rules Jerry plays by. His idea of a complete roster is get some triplets, throw them on the field....and the wins will pile up. He is so inept....I am finished for now....I could go and on about how inept he is

Honest question. How much could the players on this team actually respect Stephen Jones?

I mean they’re essentially employees. Employees who have gotten into their position through years and years of training to be the best football player they can be. Literally blood, sweat and tears for years to make it to the NFL as a player.

These employees then have to deal with the owners son, talking about “pie” and nickel and diming other employees over their contracts.

They also have to deal with the owners son, who only has his job because he is the owners son. Calling out their performance to the media. Telling the media that “they need to step up”. While taking no accountability and never having HIS position on the line.

I mean. Football or no football. At any company this would be a recipe for disaster. No employee in any profession or job wants to be bossed around by the incompetent buffoon, owners son.

If I was a cowboys player I would hate Stephen Jones more than I already do. I mean really.

Unfortunately, the timeline will be:
1) We continue in same vein with Jerry/Stephen acting as Owner/GM
2) Jerry passing away
3) Stephen taking over as Owner/GM....safe in the bubble that Daddy created.
4) Cowboys turn into the new Jets
5) Media, Jerry's loyal sycophants and fans walk away
6) Stephen acknowledges the inevitable and agrees to step back from GM duties and becomes a 'silent' owner.
7) Independent GM = act like a normal NFL Franchise

The problem is how long this will take and whether the media/fans can accelerate this process by removing the 'security blanket' that Daddy has created for Stephen.....an ideal opportunity to start the focus was the mess Stephen made of the Randy contract.
For all his faults, Jerry has created this empire and is pretty impervious through his connections and standing......Stephen has nothing going for him.

why should they? The know Jerry's door is always open and they can skip the coach.

Spot on and this is like KM, doesnt matter what he does, he'll just by-pass MM and go to Jerry.

The whole issue with this organization is the total lack of accountability and responsibility. Get a chain of command, like any normal Franchise.

Don’t know why you’re wasting so much time with this it doesn’t have much “like” potential.

Why I'm pointing out Stephen is not a part owner of the Cowboys when someone says he is?

Because you're wrong. That's why.

I used to imagine how the players must hate having to see Jerry's old face in the locker room after a tough loss. Now I imagine Stephen's ugly face coming in after Jerry, yawning. Brutal.

Go tell that to the guys at The Fan who referred to him as one of the owners during Stephen’s radio interview just last season. He didn’t object to it. Go tell that to Bill Jones who referred to him as one of the owners on Mick Shots.

I bet many of us have been in the situation where the worker bee group pretty much universally has no respect or admiration for the king bee. If the worker bee group is tight and respects each other it can work in a 'us against him' way for a time, but that never lasts. The ever-present drama, and the distraction lead to apathy and mediocrity. The well intentioned new guys coming in get sucked in to the vortex. A 'company man' type of addition to the group will really burn things down.

Not that my hopes were high for a shift for the better in the structure of the organization, but man... this thread has put the reality of the now and hopelessness of the future, front and center, illuminated with the light of a thousand suns.
