Does anyone ever remember our last "trick play?"

I mean, in this day and age there's not many secrets. So Im sure they're down league wide. And you prob don't want to waste downs on poppycock tomfoolery when games so predominantly are won by qb's. However aesthetically it sure would be nice to see something surprise me from this offense. After all this is entertainments is it not? I still remember smiling ear to ear after that play where I believe it was a handoff to hambrick off tackle and as he's about to be tackled he flips it wide to like Adrian murrell I th

Idk. Maybe I'm Grasping at entertainment-value straws since Garrett is currently building up the team and it'll take some time to compete.

Let dez throw one c'mon :) he can throw like 70 yards I heard. And judging by his recent twitter workout pic updates maybe it's up to 80 now ;) :0

I love the youth rebuild on the line, but now I think we need a speed and dynamic rebuild. One more young weapon, one more ballhawk, one more stud rusher and someone In middle management that'll mix things up and stir the pot. We feel very stale imo. and I do think jones is relinquishing power to Garrett as jones does honestly know his mistakes hurt us.

So why do you think about more trick plays

I think that busted play where Romo threw to Witten and Witten threw to TO if that even counts as a trick it's not like that robotic moron called it.

That was INSANE. What a mess we were. Imagine the 90's cowboys doing that lol, I don't think it was planned.

With rule changes as far as illegal contact and roughing the passer making the league more-and-more of a passing league you don't really see teams with good quarterbacks running trick plays. Bad teams use them to give their receivers additional separation and to create artificial protection time for quarterbacks, whereas good teams find better production out of keeping the ball in the hands of a quarterback who is used to handling the football and making accurate reads.

Right.
Didn't Parcells have a saying about teams using trick plays. Can't remember what it was. Well, Parcells had a saying on just about anything.

Also to me, a reverse / double reverse / end around, even a flea flicker isn't really a trick play. Those are in everyteams playbook. Some use them more than others.
I guess a direct snap to a RB can be considered some type a trick play, but I wouldn't put it at top of the list. Now a WR running as going into motion, then the ball is snapped to him, that's more like it.

The sad thing is, we hardly did any of that. Playaction went down big time and no delayed handoff. We had an absurdly high success rate with playaction too, but we strayed away from it.

One of my pet complaints about off play calling when Garrett was calling it was atleast once in a while throw up something not standard, anything .... He was hellbent on executing properly 100 percent of time and expecting the other team to just give up and fold. (Sic)

Let's see if Linehan has something in his bag of tricks.

The other day I started watching a game when we played Green Bay in I think 2008 when to my shock we did a reverse to Crayton where he threw deep to T.O. in the endzone... The Player was double covered and it was incomplete, though. That might be the last one.

The distance one can throw has NOTHING to do with effective passing. It's just a throw without accuracy and timing.
The flea flicker was awesome for us- under Parcells- Bledsoe to T. Glenn.
I'll tell you the most underrated, underused trick play in all football- the pump fake. A simple pump fake to a receiver, followed by an over-the-top loft. Allows the receiver to get open with a double move. Corners and Safeties bite on it everytime. Incredibly effective. Rarely used. Romo had some success with it early in his career, and then they just stopped doing it. Dez and Williams would be all day under that- wide open, going house.

Didn't we run Dez on a reverse in the last couple of years?

Did they use this also when Aikman hit Ismail in OT against the Commanders, or was it a play action pass with a pump fake. Can't remeber.
