Besides Roger Goodell..an 18 game schedule is far too many games when you factor in the playoffs and Super Bowl

I'd enjoy 2 preseason and 18 regular more than 4 and 16. Football season is way too short. I bet the STHers would agree since that's one less meaningless game they are forced to buy. Injuries are a legit concern though.

NO! It's only the commissioner and the owners who want this.

The whole idea fans don't like 4 pre-season games is crap. NFL fans are just impatient. The NBA, MLB and NHL all have a 1 month period of Training Camp/Spring Training/Preseason. I don't hear fans of those sports constantly complaining about about shorting the Training Camp/Spring Training/Preseason 1 month period.

It's Just that the NFL is SO popular that people are too impatient to wait for the pre-season to be over.

Don't forget player stats will be watered down

No... I really don't need to see all these bad teams play 2 more games.

I sure as heck don't want to see the Cowboys play 2 extra games this year either.

I live for the NFL. Give me two more games/three more weeks of it. :D

I understand why they (Goodell, probably most owners) but just because they want it (for money) doesnt make it a good idea.

Even if they expand the rosters and add a bye week, it doesnt change the fact that team's starters will still be subjected to alot more plays, and the liklihood of injury will go up. Further, expanding the rosters doesnt expand the talent, and with injuries more likely and numerous it means the quality of play will suffer even more than it has in recent years.

I just think its lousy for the quality of play, and IMO will also increase the liklihood that mediocre teams that finish around .500 will be more likely to appear in the postseason, and even win championships.

An 18 game schedule makes it mathmatically possible for us to still make the playoffs guys! :laugh2:

Nah, football is fine just the way it is. No reason to fix something that isn't broke...

I dont, I think it will water down so many stats and records. 2000 rushing yards and 5000 passing yards will happen frequently, instead of being the amazing feats they are.

Plus it is just too many games, it is pretty clear after 16 games who the best teams are and who should make the playoffs.

I dont like the over seas games and I dont want an 18 game schedule.

I'll wait and see what else changes or what is purposed before I'll make a decision on it.

I am not for it. But seems like we fans don't have much say in it anyway, unless we refuse to go to games or watch them on TV. I just see too many issues coming up with health of the players. Even if they have two byes.

By doing so I think you eventually guarantee a losing team wins a conference like the NFC West. Might happen this year anyways...

I see the 18 game season as a natural progression if it does indeed happen. They played 12 games years ago, only to work up to 14 and then to the 16 game format that we see today.

So should we then go ahead an expect 20 or 24 games schedules?

When's it enough?

I love the NFL, its by far the best product out there. But I dont want to see more games at the expense of worse play. And thats the road their going down IMO.

The nflpa doesn't have to give them 18 games but the alternative is to give back money. You know that won't happen so 18 games it is.

Yes, but the NFL is not a stats-based league like baseball is (thankfully). No one really cares about stats and besides, they're already watered down. 40,000 yards passing for a QB who debuted in 2003 is nowhere near as special as 40,000 yards passing for a QB who debuted in 1973.

I think injuries are a legitimate concern. But I just don't see how anyone who claims to love football would oppose this for any other reason.

It is an 18 game schedule but a 20 week regular season with the two byes. That will also add weeks to fantasy football. The injury part worries me a lot.

This.

We did a poll on this awhile back and the majority of fans don't want the change.

The money people want it...and they lie about fan's wanting it.

One of the beauties of the NFL is how much each win and loss counts each given week. When you play 162 games a year (MLB), any given day, win or lose, doesn't mean a damn thing.

I like the urgency, and feel of the need to win on each given week and yes.....I'm old fashioned and SICK AND TIRED of all things money, which is why they are talking of this 18 week schedule.

Bottom line is, I like it he way it is. If you don't like 4 pre-season games.....PLAY TWO.
