I think the kick was rushed, he was barely set when the ball was snapped. He may have pushed that clear to Kentuckey, but I would take him in a heartbeat!

good thread. yes, the top (realistic) potential FA kicker -- going into a market where 8-10 teams will be looking seriously, is going to intentionally miss to look like a choker. that kick might have cost him a few 100K - now people are going to seriously ask if, at his age, his career is on the downswing.

It's a thought!

If he did miss the field goal attempt intentionally, then I would have serious doubts about his love for the game, his integrity, his dedication to the team and his competitiveness! Vanderjack would have to have an extra large pair of cojones to be able to botch such a huge game and then go into the Colts locker room and look his fellow teammates in the eyes without having extreme guilt written all over his face. Or he received a hug amonut of money to make such a monumental mistake.

I'm not buying it! He's just human.

He really should not have been in position to kick a 46 yard FG. That is a long attempt at any time and is not automatic. The Colts had a 2nd and 2 at the Steerls 28 yard line. Peyton threw the ball to the endzone on 2nd down and about 12 yards on 3rd down. He could have had a receiver run to the middle of the field and try to pick of the 1st down and get a fresh set of downs. Vanderjagt still needs to make his kicks or at least not miss as badly as he did, but Peyton could have made his job easier.

I was surprised that Harper didn't stay to the sideline as he was returning that fumble. I thought he could have gained 15 to 20 more yards if he just kept running to the right side. Of course that is from my perspective from the TV. Harper was probably just excited and thought he saw something big if he could just get past Big Ben.

Evidently you have never played organized sports. Do you really think that his name will always be linked with infamy that he missed the kick that would have tied the game? That he will always be thought of as "Mr Choke"?

That when he is on the biggest stage of his life that he deliberately missed a kick? That an athlete would tank it for something he is being paid to do?

If he wants to leave, he is a FA and can leave. They wouldn't franchise him. This is an unbelievable post.

no to the first three questions.i dont think that miss affected his career.but ur last question, would an athlete tank it ?yes,im sure it happens all the time.vanderjagt could have easily made more money missing than making.lol.

I think it wasn't so much the missing it that people question -- it was how badly he missed it - you'll rarely see a quality kicker miss that badly.
