Does anyone with a football background help Jerry with decisions?

I know his son is there, and his lens cleaner, but are there guys besides the scouts who Jerry actually gather information for evaluating coaches, or hiring coaches?

Look at our HC now for your answer. The main qualification for Jerry is that they are "yes" men(that is unless he needs a new stadium).

I would say that they all have "football experience" given how long they have been at it, but some folks can simply do more with their years of experience than others and that is where Jerry and Stephen have fallen short over the years. Few General Managers have a ten year tenure in the NFL, let alone the run that Jerry has had. The reason is that it is an extremely difficult job to have success at for an extended period. Different directions are commonplace to keep from being stagnant.

I truly believe that Jerry was masterful when he hired Jimmy and let him and his group bring in the young talent while ridding the roster of the underachievers. Jimmy had a lot of connections and he/his staff were incredibly familiar with the best talent coming out of college. After Jimmy left, Jerry was horrible as GM. The talent that was brought in through those drafts were embarrassing. It was a total joke until Parcells walked through the doors and then the talent on the roster greatly improved. After Parcells it has been very hit or miss and the record reflects that.

I say all of this for a reason. I truly don't think Jerry's football IQ is what is lacking. He knows full well how to get this team to a championship level, but he refuses to do it. The issue is his ego and his desire to get the credit that goes to Jimmy and Bill for building the two best rosters of his ownership.

Hiring Jimmy and Bill proves that Jerry knows how to build winning football teams. Moving away from them so he can have more credit shows that his need to stroke his ego far outweighs his desire to win.

Great post and very true.

This is a well trodden subject and the real insiders (not us fools on nerd boards) say just the opposite: Jerry consults TOO MANY people in making football decisions. With the exception of Parcells who was a known value, and Jimmy Johnson, who was a drinking pal and successful college coach, most of the other decisions he makes are said to come from other owners and coaches around the league...and GMs. As much as I take Garrett to task for the last three seasons, there were ALOT of voices from around the league that were high on him..most thought he was the next great thing. That obviously has not been the case so far. I'm not Jerry's biggest fan, but the fact is that players play and coaches coach...but then there's the camp that hands every ****** happening to Jerry and every great one that happens is in spite of what he does. Frankly, it's a bore to hear anymore.

Parcells didn't allow Jerry to speak to the press much and his coaches less yet as well as the players. That rubbed Jerry to the point he ran him off.

The Almighty. Jerry is big on faith and hope and The Almighty spent many years watching the Cowboys from the hole in the roof at Texas Stadium.
