Does Austin get the punt return job?

He better. It was frustrating to see "Fair catch or 5 yards" Beasley back there on Saturday night.

Although as I understand it, Beasley is considered more sure-handed than Austin.

That was one of the things they said Austin was acquired to do. Now that he's back, I'd hope they'd use him back there. I could see using Beasley in a spot where they're punting from midfield and you're probably only looking at a fair catch inside the 20 - Austin has had the occasional fumble. But if there's a good chance of a return Austin is the one who can do something with it.

The only concern is Austin's groin injury. He seemed just fine to me Sat. but that may be adrenaline, who knows. Last week, the cowboys reported soreness earlier in the week. Let's just hope he's okay going forward. I also haven't heard an update on Beasley, I hope he's okay

The Cowboys will continue to use Beasley on punt returns if teams aren’t backed up because he’s sure handed. When teams are backed up they’ll continue to use Austin. The problem with Austin is he had fumbling issues with the Rams on punt returns. The forecast is for rain on Saturday so the ball is going to be slick.

I don't know why people have not picked up on this sooner .. they normally use Beasley when the kick will be caught inside Dallas' own 20 yard line because he typically has much better hands. He's only caught more this year because Austin got hurt because that was their plan with Austin originally. That said, Beasley being injured likely gave the Cowboys a little more motivation to use Austin on slightly deeper than usual kicks.

Most punt returners only average 8-10 yards on returns and logically you would rather give up 8-10 yards that deep on your own side to make sure your offense gets the ball because they give you your best chance to score.

Austin may end up being as reliable as Beasley at catching the ball and we may find that out next season, but for now, you don't risk giving up a touchdown to the other team or give them the ball back just to gain a few yards.

Everyone has to remember that the Seahawks have a bad special teams. Just because Austin looked great the last game does not mean he will look great against other teams.

Hopefully Austin will be healthy enough, but hell yeah he should be our punt returner!

Lol yea, they have done this forever. It was the same thing with Patrick Crayton and Dez too.

.....since Bease is already hurt. And hardly gets 5 yac on returns.

Austin shows he is DANG! dangerous if he is given the opportunity.

I suspect we will see more of Austin as a punt returner, but I also suspect that if things are going well and we don't want to lose momentum with a mistake Beasley will be in to do the safe thing.

Austin has had an alarming 17 fumbles and punt returns. He had 4 fumbles on punt returns last year with the Rams. So far he hasn’t put any on the ground with us but it’s something you have to be concerned about with him because he has a history of it.

The Seattle punter constantly out punts his coverage. Typical Pete Carroll arrogance.

I would hope. It was nice to see that our return game helped the offence.

issue is he needs surgery isn't healthy and gave all he had and limped out of that game, he might be good for two returns if he even plays at all..sucks he didnt get that TD for all his effort but we all know it was a score..

hope he has enough to take a few long returns..shot will wear off :)

he was limping a lot late//they need to ONLY use him on returns and not the offense..just give Cooper, and Gallup a lot more snaps to make up for Hurns and TA being gone and bease limping as well...

This is the one phase of the game where the Rams have a decided advantage - special teams. Johnny Hekker is a fantastic punter, and Legatron is an excellent placekicker too. Both have huge legs. Austin is less than 100% physically, and if there's one team out there that is aware of his ball security issues on punt returns, it's the Rams. The Cowboys need to break even in the kicking game to win this game.

Did we not see what Austin did Saturday? He was giving us great field position and had a TD stolen from him.

Austin should get most of the PRs this week. He will want to take it the house against his old team that dumped him!
