Does Dallas miss Hamlin more than we think?

I know most of us have been tough on Hamlin the past year, but is it a coincidence we started giving up these big plays over 20 yards or more when Hamlin is out? Alan Ball has done a decent job but Hamlin isn't there to be our "QB of the secondary." I know Hamlin doesn't make a ton of plays but I think in terms of making sure everyone is in the correct place, has gone undervalued IMO. Maybe Newman doesn't give up that 3rd and long if Hamlin tells him to press at the line so Jackson doesn't get a clean start off the LOS. Do you think we've missed Hamlin?

Ball made a great play on Sunday and probably saved a TD. I don't see Hamlin making that play. I really tried to picture him doing it and I just couldn't.

Personally, I don't miss him.

I'm not saying Ball hasn't done a serviceable job, but it just seems like we aren't lined up properly, and that is Hamlin's responsibility. All I'm saying is I don't think it's a coincidence we started giving up these big plays after Hamlin got injured.

We have to upgrade the SS position. Sensabaugh is getting worse every week. I'm starting to think Keith Davis was a better safety last year.

The defense will certainly perform better with a healthy Hamlin.

Look at the matchup Sensy had this week. Anyone covering Gates is considered a mismatch. Sensabaugh has been a bright spot on this defense; I would like to see him re-sign to a 3 year deal. He's a solid player.

Sensabaugh is a good tackler but pretty bad in coverage and we probably should look to find someone better given how involved TEs are in the passing game for most offenses.

Hamlin is garbage and should be released in the capfree year to get him off the books and his attitude off the roster.

Ball is okay - he is making the transition from sknny CB to safety and shows some CF potential but I don't think he is the long-term answer at either spot. I don't like how passive he has been in some of the over the middle zones. His tackling has been surprisingly good. I'm not in any rush to get rid of him.

Hopefully we have something in the other Hamlin because safety continues to be a major weakness on this defense.

We are so poor up the middle in coverage with james/brookings/sensa/ball right now. I wonder if the Saints break 40 on us - my guess is yes. Payton will make mincemeat out of them.

All our LB's minus Ware can not cover. We have huge holes in the middle 5-10 yard past the LOS because Bradie James and Keith Brooking can not cover. Brooking is an excellent run stopper and tackler, but he's not going to defend a pass, and neither is James. Carpenter is actually a better option than these two.

Our MLB coverage is horrible, and it shows on 3rd and long.

I couldnt agree more with Theo about Sensabaugh, he is getting worse every week. It doesnt bother me that he gave up a TD to Gates, but the guy isnt very good vs the run and I havent seen any of the "great" cover skills we were supposedly getting either.

I think both safety positions need new players next yr.

This defense needs to be revamped in the worst way. Hamlin is missed for aligning the defense. That is about it. I haven't seen much of a dropoff other then that.

I keep Sense, maybe get rid of Hamlin and look for a FA Vet Safety to bring along a rook FS. Or, just ride Hamlin another year until a FS is ready to take over. Whoever the FS is, he has got to be a young gun if possible. Let him grow with this defense.

Course, I also would like the 4-3 defense back, but, that's just me.

Sensabaugh hasn't played great as of late but he has also been playing with a cast on one arm. I can imagine that limits some of his ability to make a play in the passing game and tackle/wrap-up an opposing player. If i remember correctly he was playing pretty good earlier in the year.

He has looked tentative tackling and doesn't make many notable plays, but I think that the above is true - he is a very good QB.

Now I'll admit I have no issue with Gerald but I'll throw this out there anyway.

Is there any chance at all, with FA and the draft, that we could snatch up a playmaking safety at both FS and SS?

One thing is for sure, we need him this week againt the Saints. They're going to spread it out so much, Alan Ball will almost certainly have to play some corner.

And Ken's years of experience will probably help in lining us up against the many looks NO will show us.

Huh? Much better then what they have now. Hardly stunk.

Yes, I would rather have Brock Marion back, but, gimme a break.

He was just a good player..pretty average.

I thought we were talking about safety's that really played well and made a difference.

Like Woody, james washington, brock marion did. Roy williams in his first 2 years....

We just havent had that for a while.
