Greata Cowboy but just not HoF great. You have to revolutionize a position or be top 3 all time to really be considered for the HoF

If that were really the criteria there would be VERY few players in the HOF. "Top 3 all-time" or "revolutionize a position" would make it nearly impossible for anyone to make it to the HOF. It would be easy to rattle off a list of guys who are not even top 8 or 10 at their position and didn't revolutionize anything that are in the HOF (Swann, Hampton, Namath etc.) However, I agree with your assessment that he is not "HOF great".

he was good enough and he made the entire defense better, which I think paper stats will never indicate.

the guy won't make it, but he should based solely on his value to the team.

Nice guy, very good player, occasional Pro Bowler, but that's all.

I know it's difficult for safeties to make the Hall of Fame.
But does Darren Woodson have the numbers, and do you think his ascension as football commentator will help him be nominated to the Hall of Fame and ultimately get there?

Darren Woodson needs to decide to himself do he want to stay in retirement or not... because just last season when he was asked if he might consider coming back to the NFL after retiring he said it would be something he might consider doing. He also mention how he stays in shape...

It was more news in last season if Cowboys made the playoffs he would sign...

^So that means Woodson needs to make up his mind... I think if you staying in shape and you feel that you still in physical form to play, do it, if not don't do it....

Sorry, but no.

It's a shame that good guys don't always get in because he was one of the real good ones as a human being.

Darren has to be happy with the (3) SB rings and a second career in football. According to my professional meter that a pretty darn good career.

Woody was the epitome of a consumate professional and leader on and off the field.

At this point it's up in the air, especially given the HOF committe's bias against this organization. I'll keep my fingers crossed but it would be a shame if he don't get consideration.

Unfortunately I'm afraid that Woody will not get voted into the HoF. I feel that he most certainly SHOULD go in but likely the politics of football will keep him out. It is a sad state of affairs but it is the case none-the-less.

He won't get in, but he should. He was the best safety in football from 1994-1998 or so. He is so underrated even by Cowboy's fans.

I think Woody should be considered..
He is the all time Cowboys tackling leader and for a franshise that has had many great defensive players and 3 rings to boot....

NO way...won't happen, imo.

No Cliff Harris...No Woodson...he was incredibly valuable to Dallas, but he's not going to the HOF.

FOr those saying "No way"....is it becasue he's a safety, as was mentioned? Or he wasn't good enough?

Who would be better to go (HoF), at the safety spot?

Does that mean he doesn't have good NFL numbers? Of course *most* Dallas people know he's "valuable", but the rest of the league has/had no clue?

What is the Lambeau Leap and who invented it?
Robert Brooks is credited with popularizing the celebratory move, but safety LeRoy Butler is the innovator of the Lambeau Leap -- the touchdown celebration in which the scoring player leaps into the arms of awaiting fans in the stands.

Butler 'invented' the move Dec. 26, 1993. Here's how it happened: In the fourth quarter, Los Angeles Raiders quarterback Vince Evans completes a second-down swing pass to running back Randy Jordan, who takes the ball to the Raiders' 40-yard-line before Butler forces a fumble that is recovered by Reggie White at the Raiders' 35.

After running with the ball for 10 yards, White lateralles it to Butler, who runs the remaining 25 yards into the end zone and then makes a spontaneous leap into the arms of fans in the south bleachers. The Packers go on to win 28-0 to clinch what would be the first of six consecutive playoff berths.

I think part of it is that he was a Safety but I also believe that he probably wasn't quit good enough. Very, very good player IMO. If there was a HOF for good guys, he would certainly make it but not good enough IMO.

There are some great, great players that are not in the Hall at the Safety position. Woody was my favorite player while he was with the Boys and to be honest, since he's retired, I really don't have another favorite. Having said that, I think the discussion of Cowboy Safeties not in the Hall has to start with Cliff Harris. A better player, IMO.

The best Safety I ever saw play, and this again is just my opinion, was Steve Atwater. He could do everything Woody could do and more. He's not in. IMO, he was better then Lott but he did not get the same ink. His team mate, Dennis Smith was also a pretty fair Safety but he is not in either.

Carnell Lake was a pretty good Safety as well but he won't be in.

Ken Easley was a fantastic Safety but he's not in the Hall.

Eric Turner was a pretty good Safety as well but his career was cut short. Is 9 years long enough? Did he do enough? I don't know. I do know that there are at least a few guys down through the years that were better then Woody IMO.

Not a popular opinion, I'm sure but it's how I see it.
