Does Goodell get too involved?

I was just reading that Goodell wants a solution to the Favre saga by Monday. I would love to see it end, too, but I got to thinking about whether or not Goodell should be using his position to force an end to the situation. Seems like he doesn't want to make a decision regarding Favre's reinstatement.

The way I see it, the situation is between the Packers and Favre and Goodell really doesn't play a role in it other than approving or denying his reinstatement. What if he stepped in and demanded that we come to some sort of conclusion when TG was at odds over the injury waiver? I don't think it's his place to inject what a team or player should/shouldn't do, unless it's in regards to items that clearly violate league rules. I don't think the Packers/Favre situation is violating any rules.

Goodell has done some good things since taking over as the commissioner. No longer does the 'F' in NFL stand for Felon. I just think, at times, he butts in when he should just sit back and let the teams and players work things out.

I think he picks his battles based on the attention he can get. I thought he was a good pick for commissioner but I think he gives the more high profile teams and players more attention than he should. The Cowboys are the highest profile team in the league and I am glad we seem to be flying under his radar. Now if for some crazy reason he did not admit AJ (considering he stays on the track he is now) I would call for his head. But honestly I think he has a Napolean complex to a degree if somebody is doing something and he feels out of the loop he uses his position to feel like he has to be involved. What other hold outs has he involved himself with? If this was not Favre he would not be concerned. JMO

I'm anti-Goodell and think he should be impeached after the Pats-Spygate debacle (www.impeachgoodell.com), but I can see why he's getting involved here. It's kind of a unique situation and this could possibly lead to problems in the future, so let's nip it in the bud before it gets really out of hand (of course, he should've nipped it in the bud with the Pats by properly punishing them). That being said, given his track record, I have little confidence that he can make the right decision when it comes to Favre...so for the sake of the Packers and Favre, they had better hope they resolve it before he starts deciding what to do.

Goddell has no buisness getting involved in this situation. His job was to reinstate favre and leave it into the hands of the packers. This is a green bay packers problem, not an NFL problem. The NFL dosen't revolve around favre, but goddell is acting as if the NFL will go under without this guy. There are 31 other teams in the NFL, but this clown continues to steal the headlines and goddell is continues to stir the pot.

AS the previous poster suggested, this Weasel Favre is setting a precedent here. What if Payton Manning decided to "retire" and three weeks later is talking to the Eagles to sign a contract. That could put the Eagles over the top and they could steal a Super Bowl from us. Next thing you know everyone is "retiring" and coming back with a different team.

People are being shallow in their hatred towards Goodell. You have to think one step ahead man.

I don't know many that had a problem with Tags involvement or lack thereof, but he made a lot of weird rulings that often contradicted previous rulings for no reason. As with most things in life, there's a balance between "not enough" and "too much." I don't think Goodell's being too involved in this situation because Brett does have a right to un-retire (even though it's not good to change your mind) and it hurts the NFL product if one of its more popular players is being bought out to not play when they are perfectly capable of playing. I think that's the big point.

A player can't retire, unretire and choose any team to play for. The team he was with still retains the rights to the player if he retired with a current contract. The only way I can see it happening is if the person retires when the contract expires, making him a FA.

Right on the money. i have never lacked this northeastern liberal. he favors the teams in the northeast like the Pats,Giants and the Bills. as witness of him letting M. lynch off with no punishment in that hit and run. and suspending Wade wilson for 5 games last year was a disgrace. he has been anti-cowboys every since he got this job.look at those refs he sent to Dallas for that playoff game.that crew was know to screw the home team. he got the results he wanted.this guy is a joke and has to go.

I think Goodell and his approach could be good for the football business.

He muffed the Patriots scandalS. He was trying to protect the NFL. I get it.

He handles different situations differently... I get that too... everything is situational.... BUT... needs more consistency on the obvious stuff.
