the fans treated him worse in the end than the organization...Troy isnt stupid, he knew what was going to happen...he could have dramatically restructured his deal if he wanted to continue playing but chose not to

and the fact that he's never suited up elsewhere shows he knew he was done...back and knee problems ended his career more than the concussions IMO, because the back and knee issues robbed him of velocity on the football

How true. I was down on him early in 2000 until I heard he was taking shots just to be able to put on his jersey. Didn't complain about him after that.

I know at the dallasnews forum, there were some who wanted him gone, saying we were better without him etc. Reminds me of the old saying, "be careful what you wish for as you might just get it".

Here is one of the things he does that may be an example of what you are talking about... Ware chases Barber down from the backside and instead of first of all saying good play on Ware's part, the thing Troy emphasizes is that he expects the Giants will exploit Ware from now on and run some bootlegs to his side.

Troy did the exact same thing in the San Diego game when Henry broke up a couple of passes. Instead of saying it was a good play on Henry's part, which it was, Troy immediately emphasized that Henry was "squatting" on the route and he expected San Diego to go to a double move and expose Henry.

Now, I'm not saying Troy is wrong in his analysis, it's just he looks for the downside of a play or what a player is doing, instead of giving credit for a good play. He is right about the Giants possibly running some bootlegs or the Chargers going downfield, but it comes across as negative.

Actually, I don't think it's him trying to cover any homerism for the Boys, it's just the way Troy views everything. His demeanor and personality have always struck me as a "glass half-empty" guy as opposed to a "glass half-full" guy.

I think you are exactly right Captain America. Aikman is a perfectionist and is always looking at ways to improve himself, his game, his team, etc. I think he is much more of a homer than people realize which is why he is so critical of the Cowboys, HIS Cowboys.

When he sees a play, he looks for what was done wrong and could be improved first. Very much like Tom Landry in that respect. Players used to complain all the time that you would never know that we won a game based on what Landry focused on afterwards, nothing but what could be improved or done better.

Troy is not a guy who tolerates mistakes in himself or in his teammates, at least not on the field anyway.

When I listen to him I hear him being more critical of the Cowboys it is because he wants so much for them to do it right and win games. It's been a long time since we had a really good team in Dallas so any criticism is warranted IMO.

I enjoy Troy and Buck. I think they do well and are very professional even though I don't always agree with some things they have said.

Actually, if anyone has a right to be burned up at the Cowboys, Troy does. Not only for the way he was released, but also for the years of ineptness by Jerry which resulted in troy never really reaching his potential as a player. Because of the Jimmy-Jerry wars followed by the years of insanity by Jones, the team Jimmy built disintegrated in Jerry's grabbing, clutching hands. That team could have and should have won five in a row or more, but Jerry kept fumbling the ball while thinking he was some kind of genius. Troy could have gone out with the most Super Bowl wins and Jerry's madness not only hurt him, it hurt a lot of the players as well by keeping them from acheiving their potential. I don't think he resents the Cowboys so much, just Jerry - and who can blame him. You always resent it when some mindless idiot with money and power prevents you from attaining your goals through his meddling in things he doesn't understand.

Besides, in all areas involving bias; politics, religion, sports, believers never want to hear anything but compliments and support. It makes us feel uncomfortable is someone does support our preferences.

I think a lot of you are emphasizing Troy's critiquing of the Cowboys more than his praising.

Did you not hear him congratulate them on tearing the Eagles a new one? He said he's never seen a team thoroughly move up and down the field on the Eagles like Dallas did.

He saw all those turnovers Sunday against the Giants and couldn't believe it...much like me.

Troy speaks directly from his professional mind. Just listen to him call 'Boys games during the preseason. The passion is still there for the Boys.

And all this crap about him being ticked at JJ is just that...crap. Go back and look at his retirement PC and then listen to him talk at the ROH ceremony. It's quite evident that Troy, Emmitt, and Michael see JJ as "family".

T.O. lined up in the backfield, and caught a little pass in the right flat on 3rd and 3. Roy dropped him at the line of scrimmage. Troy was talking about what a good tackle it was by Roy, and he said "Owens is usually bigger than the guys trying to tackle him. He's not bigger than Roy Williams." I swear I heard a little pride in his voice.

I don't know if that's Cowboy homerism as much as it is no love for T.O., but either way, Troy is one of the best color commentators in the world, and I'm proud of him.

I've long thought this too, but it doesn't bother me too much. Aikman is dead set on trying to become one of the top analysts out there, and he probably feels like he can never show any bias toward his former team in order to do so. That, and I think he's generally a guy that is difficult to please. A 3-2 or 4-2 record in mid-October probably doesn't get him all warm and fuzzy.

Not sure you should be commenting on his intelligence given the ex-Cowboy trivia fiasco of a couple days ago. What's more, I completely disagree. Troy is one of the most well-spoken athletes around. Just because he doesn't constantly go for the laughs (something that irritates me to no end on the pregame shows with Bradshaw and the rest) does not mean he isn't intelligent.
