I've always thought that for most of his tenure here, Jerry Jones was more about feeding his own ego than actually winning Superbowls. He wants nothing more than to have complete control over everything and be seen as a "smart football guy", if a Superbowl comes from that, so be it.
But it troubles me to hear how steadfast he is in keeping this lameduck coaching staff here. The same one that took a 13-3 team to 9-7 and out of the playoffs in one season and bringing us quite possibly the worst loss in team history.
Why does he think anything will change next year? Now either he honestly does think things will change next year, thus proving what a terrible "football guy" he actually is, or...
he just doesn't care. He knows Wade isn't leading this team to a Superbowl, but he also knows Wade won't rock the boat. Wade will let Jerry have all the control he wants.
Look, Jerry has his new stadium. He has his star players. Romo and T.O. and the rest are going to fill up Jerryworld whether this team is 13-3 or 9-7 next season. So when Jerry looks out at that packed to the brim new stadium with every single person wearing merchandise purchased at one of Jerry's merchandise booths and he feels his pockets get fatter and fatter, I wonder whether deep down he's actually going to mind if the team doesn't win a Superbowl as long as he's making money and filling the stadium. I wonder if to him, just fielding a team competitive enough to keep people interested in coming to the stadium is going to be enough for him.
Wade is not a great coach, but he's not a terrible one either. He can certainly muster a false hope season of 10-6 or so if things fall his way next year. Enough to keep the money flowing at Jerryworld.
