Does jersey # announcement mean "door is closed" for Brandin Cooks return to Cowboys?

How bad does a team have to be, COOKS HAD A 1000 yards in his previous years, came here and never had it, hmmmmmm
Lol,
Cooks had 699 yards at a 12.3 avg the season prior to coming here. He had 657 yards at a 12.2 average in a season the QB threw for 4500 yards and 36TDs, His first season here.
Hmmmm

Don’t think that door was ever open.
Cooks at this stage of his career is probably relegated to slot receiver. This team has consistently liked to play Lamb in the slot, especially in early downs.

Looks like teams are waiting to see how the draft, heavy at receivers who best fit as slot, goes before committing to an aging slot receiver!
It was a bad year for him to be a FA unless he’s willing to play for a lot less than what he’s used to!

Cowboys Send Strong Message Giving Brandin Cooks' Jersey To New Free Agent

By Nathan Karseno, Athlon Sports

In recent Dallas Cowboys jersey # announcements, Dante Fowler Jr (who wore No. 56 during his first stint in Dallas) was given No. 3 ... an interesting digit that reminds Cowboys Nation of another notable free agent.

Receiver Brandin Cooks - who wore No. 3 in Dallas in 2024 - is still available on the market.

We have seen when players sign elsewhere their jersey number immediately opens up for the next crop of players. Notably Solomon Thomas taking over DeMarcus Lawrence's No. 90 .

But Cooks hasn't signed a new contract anywhere yet ...

Does this all but spell the end of his time with the Cowboys?

Cooks has had plenty to say this offseason. Despite him accusing the Cowboys of "not using him right", he claims the "door's not shut" on a return to Dallas.

Dallas has recently added a veteran receiver in Parris Campbell along with the re-signing of KaVontae Turpin.

There are still multiple impact-level targets on the free agency market for the Cowboys to pursue as well. Then the NFL Draft.

But all indications have still pointed to the Cowboys moving on from the veteran wideout - the latest being them giving up his returning jersey number.

Is the "door closed" on Brandin Cooks return to Dallas?

Of course it does.

As it does for any other FA we would have signed if he has a number that is already in use.

Fixating jersey numbers equals to the end of FA. Thats by league rules. I wonder the autor doesnt know about this. Must be new to the business.

Lol,
You also seemed to leave out he went from being the Texans #1 to being the 3rd option here behind Lamb and Ferguson, besides the steady decline from 697 to 657!

Gilly was a good pick up. He was supposed to be CB3 before bland went down

He was garbage against the packers but he was also hurt
I don't disagree. But he wasn't what he once was. No big deal. But it seems like the Cowboys always gravitate to those players. Good, but not what they use to be players.

Players do should not question the FO. And the media surely does not. They learned a long time ago about that, and just recently were reminded of it again.

So true, JC.

Just like the serious verbal warning Michael Irvin recently gave to DeMarcus Lawrence.

"We're letting you go to Seattle, but we're willing to let you come back home after you're done in Seattle. But you need to "stop talking about the motherland" or we are going to excommunicate you, "so stop"."

That is Michael Irvin talking for Jerry and the Cowboys front office.

The Dallas Cowboys are not some Christian Church. Not with ol' Jerry asking women to come pray at his altar *rimshot* (also a double entendre - hey-yo!).
