Does JJ trade down in this year's Draft?

Funny. All the Saints picks made the roster. Do they suck?
They had four total draft picks, all in the top 5 rounds. Of course they all made it.

Before that draft, it was widely viewed as one of the weakest drafts in recent history. I can't say I blame them for the approach they took, if that were the case.

Regardless, you can't point to 2009 and say that "might" be a bad year to discredit the previous four drafts, two of which were out of this world (2005 and 2008).

I can point to 2009 as we are 3 players down already. With a 4th who is questionable. Yes, it might have been a bad draft class but then trading picks from a better class (2008) to get more in 2009 doesn't look so smart.

Do we need to go to 2004 to revisit more disastrous picks?

But in such a weak draft class.....

Again, you can't point to one year with an unusually poor draft to discredit the previous four years of excellent draft results.

I guess you *can* do whatever you like. Just don't expect anyone to listen.

Were you being intentionally misleading or was that unwitting?

It's too bad that we couldn't finagle some picks in this year's draft.

I wouldn't doubt that Jerry tried.

We are one of the best teams because we NEVER let good players get away. That's what really separates us .... when we hit on a player, he doesn't leave.

So we may not be a great draft team but we sure are outstanding at retention.

I agree. We don't. But you have to get good players first, before you convince them to stay.

We get good players. We draft them and we sign them as RFAs. I view RFA signings the same way I view draft picks. They are players who most likely would've been drafted when we had 12 rounds.

I think we should be looking to trade up this year. The talent and depth of the roster in most spots and the laser focus we should have on the OL should dictate it.

A lot has to fall right to make it happen. We have to have a player we like at a position we need, like Iupoti is availible at a spot we feel he's properly valued. And then the team there has to be willing to deal.

Of course we did well in two of those years. We had multiple first round picks. That'll boost any draft unless you are incompetent.

But calling 06 and 07 excellent classes? I see one outstanding pick in Spencer and hopefully a second in Free but really not much else to call "excellent"

I showed you the aggregated numbers for the four years. It should be obvious by now, I would think.

In any event, I'm done with this conversation as it's boring.

Oh, I see the genesis of your argument now. It's a variation of the "your investments, on average, earned pretty well between 05 and 08. We really can't count all the money you lost in 2009 in the picture because the economy was really bad."
