Seems to be daily the media keeps asking where will Romo play next. Anyone think the constant talk regarding Romo's future becomes a distraction?
If it was going to be a distraction then it would've happened against the Ravens.
I felt like that game would be the most pressure Dak would face regarding the whole Romo thing.. 300 yards & 3 TD's later.. I think it's behind him and behind the rest of the team.
If Romo was going to be a distraction, it would've already happened throughout the whole time he was "injured". He's a team guy, all class. He wouldn't sabotage this team. But during the offseason rumors will be running rampant about if Romo is leaving and to which team. We won't have to worry about that until after we win the Super Bowl.
No. What the media is yapping about means zero to the team. Plus nothing will happen til after the season anyway, so it's a non issue.Seems to be daily the media keeps asking where will Romo play next. Anyone think the constant talk regarding Romo's future becomes a distraction?
If Tony wants to leave to start (or compete to start) elsewhere, you figure out how to make that happen rather than keeping a disgruntled overpaid backup around. Not that I think Tony would be a troublemaker. But I do believe that treating players well gives an advantage when it comes to signing guys down the road. Players on the Cowboys and across the league see that Jerry loves his players, is loyal to his players and generally treats them right. Forcing Tony to stay on as backup could do real damage to that image.I want to know how much available cap space every scenario of him leaving would give us. Being cut, traded, or retiring.
If it's only going to give us 4 or 5 mill extra than I would rather just keep the guy unless some offers ridiculous compensation.

And give up $14 million dollars? I'd be surprised. If we try to keep him I think he would retire. I would if I were him.

Huh? The question was whether Tony would retire or not if the Cowboys tried to keep him. If he retires, he walks away from $14 million. Nothing to do with the cap.So you're sure we get 14 mill in cap space?

Well you cut him and he goes to the Cardinals... What then?
I'm not as willing to part ways with him.
I understand what you mean but Dallas most of the time does what is best for the player. You don't screw around with the QB position.
Getting rid of the guy and only getting 4 or 5 mill doesn't make it worth it. Especially considering part of that money would be used to get a backup.
We need real compensation.
