Does Sparano go to Atlanta?

With this info being out about Parcells to Atlanta, the natural assumption is that he hires a coach he's familiar with.

My first fear was losing Garrett, then it hit me that we could actually lose Sparano. I don't know which would be a bigger loss.

I'd like to get your thoughts on who the candidates are on our team and in the league.

I would rather lose Sparano over Garrett. That is not a knock on Sparano but Garrett has been doing a great job and relates to the players very well.

If Parcells is named VP, I wonder what McKay's role will be. Anyway, Parcells first hire would be his HC & probably get a new head of scouting at some point. You could presume the new HC gets a chance to name his own coaching staff but with Parcells you never know.

For all of the many criticisms, he did a pretty good job of bringing in some pro bowl type talent. Wonder if he sticks with their 4-3 or goes with the 3-4. You better believe he will get rid of any trouble makers on that team and no way will Vick ever be allowed to return.

This is a good time of the year to make Parcells hire cause he'll be first in line to get any coaches he wants. Wouldn't be surprised if he went after Sparano as his OC so we better not lose Garrett.

I would not be suprised to see BP give Zimmer a chance at HC. It was BP who talked him out of a HC job in the college ranks to remain with Dallas and would not come as a shock if he gave Zimmer this chance.

I bet they make a total break with the Petrino coaching staff.

Sparano is a great coach.

We are lucky he is still a coach for Dallas.

You know, I wouldn't discount that idea at all. You very well may be on to something with this.

Maybe a guy like Tom Coughliln (sp?) if the Giants blow it over the next 2 weeks?

Or if J Fox is fired, maybe a guy like him?

Hopefully he raids the Pats instead of us!

As I said I'm not knocking him but I do think Garrett has done a great job and has a very bright future ahead of him. He also relates well to this breed of player and players think very highly of him. I would hope we could keep our entire staff intact but as this team has success these coaches are going to be hot items and if push comes to shove I would hope we could keep Garrett over Sparano.

According to Fox sports, Parcells would be VP of Player operations. He would hire a GM who would take care of the Head Coaching search.

Now I am sure Parcells would have his hand in the process, and we could possibly lose some coaches (as we have every year), but for some reason I don't think Sparano will be one of them.

Then again, I hvae been known to be wrong before? :D

Sparano certainly gets an interview -- and possibly the job but I think that Bill has a couple of other guys on his radar. Wheras Mike Singletary sounded like a great fit last week, I doubt that Bill would be as interested in him b/c Singletary is not strong on X's and O's.

The guy I think that Bill would really like is Mike Nolan -- he's likely getting the axe in SF - he may be in ATL in some capacity, either as the HC or DC.

Of course, with Bill on board, if Charlie Weis had an interest that could happen too.

He should go after his son in law Pioli for GM.

It would suck to lose Sparano. I think Bill perceives him as a guy that has paid his due and I would not be suprised if he was given the job.

To be honest, how do you know the same can't be said of Sparano?

Or what if he hired Ireland for GM?

The way I heard it on ESPN this morning, Parcells would hire the GM and the coaches. Sounds like the plan is for him to coach the GM for a couple of years before he retires. But if he got Ireland, I guess it could technically be a promotion since Parcells is VP of Football Operations and not really the GM.

Of course, that's nominally only. Anyone think Parcells would hire a GM and then let the guy have free rein? Or would he be the de facto GM until he leaves?

I wouldnt worry about parcells cherry picking our coaching staff.

According to Dale Hansen, Richie Whitt, JJT etc.... he was very mean and miserable to them. He expected them to show up work hard and get results. He was just so mean to them that they didnt talk to each other in the hallways and always were depressed.

So there is absolutely no chance any of the coaches here would ever coach for a guy who has expectations and is mean. After all he is the grinch who stole happy time from valley ranch.

so dont worry about it. Right?

That Ireland angle hurts.

Another angle here is that they aren't naming Bill the GM because they want to leave open the possibility of hiring a coach who wants the coach/gm duties -- i don't think a big time coach like Holmgren or Cowher or Scottenheimer would balk at working with a guy like Bill on personnel so long as they go the GM title and had a strong say in decisions.

Just based on interviews I have seen with offensive players and how quick they are to talk about Garrett. I don't hear them gushing over Sparano as they have Jason. This does not mean that don't like him only that they are quick to credit Garrett for what he is doing.
