Is it possible that the Cowboys FO just doesn't believe in Dak long term?
Why else would we not be going all out to surround him with talent, like other teams seem to be doing?

Seattle started this trend 2012-2015 when Russell Wilson was on his first contract making less than the long snapper. I have heard meany media outlets harping on this fact, so this is by no means a revelation, but more of a trend.
Cheap first contract QB's are the single greatest advantage a pro football team can have.

-Philly-Wentz
-Rams-Goff
-Niners- JImmy G- Yes I know Jimmy just got paid, but they had a ridiculous amount of cap space
-Bears- Trubisky
-KC- Mahomes
-Houston -Watson

We wouldn’t have a released Romo if we didn’t believe in Dak long term. Reports were we offered Sammy Watkins 15M per. The Cowboys haven’t been big players in free agency for several years. This has been the approach when Romo was still the QB and has nothing to do with not wanting to surround Dak with talent. Dez could possibly be released and one of the reasons is because of the lack of chemistry with Dak. We’re banking on the draft to improve the team.

You have some good points, I don't think this is a zero sum type situation.
I think Romo situation was unique because he was going on three straight years of injuries, and his body couldn't take the punishment.

I' glad we didn't sign Watkins, his contract was outrageous based on his performance.

Even though Romo had become injury prone Jerry wasn’t about to release him and leave the team without a QB he and his staff believed in. Romo could still play at a very high level so it took a lot of believe in Dak’s ability to make that move. When Jerry released Aikman after the 2000 season it left the team with no viable QB and the Cowboys suffered for years. Jerry wasn’t about to go through that situation again. As for Watkins, 15M per was far too much for his production and injury history. However I am disappointed we didn’t go after Michael Crabtree. He would have been a big upgrade over Twill.

I dont care if the FO does or doesnt. I want the coaches to actually coach. The fans cant have it both ways. Dak had a great rookie season, than all of a sudden forgot how to play. Or the coaches were so wonderful with a bad qb in his rookie year, than sucked in his second? Pick one.

clearly they believe in him and Zeke and Dez....otherwise they would have been making moves to do something to change the burden from them to this team's success. This team's offense is built 1st through the oline and 2nd through the rb, right now Dak is third in the equation but will likely end up at the top of the list in the next few years.

I dont worry about dak and the offense, there is more than enough talent there to do well...its the defense, we have to finish the rebuild....and coaching has to improve, can't be predictable...

This year will tell us what we have in Dak
So far he's been really good or really bad.

I agree, unfortunately it is a wasted year if we don't have anything!

The other problem is that a QB who could be very good will be right around where we pick in Baker Mayfield.

Making sure the O line has enough able bodies to secure some time in the pocket is doing more for Dak than signing Watkins to a ridiculous contract. I am reading that we have a few O line FA coming in to meet. We are a run first team anyway so Zeke playing 16 games in a season tells a lot. Securing the O line and having the star RB on the field seems to do wonders. The big difference now is that the secondary is so much better which is a big difference from the 13-3 season. I am not a Linehan fan by anymeans and feel as if we could do better at that coaching spot.

I highly doubt the front office has lost faith in Prescott. They pushed all their chips into the pile his rookie season. Doubt they will be folding on him any time soon.

The FO has an offseason strategy. Obviously, it is not a strategy that hinges strongly upon free agency. Of course, the strategy will completely unravel if their draft board does not net them sought after players.

Even if a team has a QB they don’t believe in long time and see them as a stopgap, they’re still going to add talent around them to try and improve their performance and to have talent in place for their next QB. It’s silly to think that a team isn’t going to attempt to add offensive talent because they don’t believe in their QB long term. The perception some have of how the Cowboys go about their business is pretty funny. Lol

Yes,but not to the point they wouldn't draft another next year if this season was like his last.
He doesn't have to make all these big plays or perfect passes,he just needs to clean up the ugly stuff,so you don't have stupid pick sixes,or poorly executed plays on key downs. Of course you want to improve on passing better, but they'll be on the winning side and have much better confidence and chemistry.
