Does The NFL Have A Mercy Rule?

Years ago I saw a high school football game that ended up as a 99 to 0 score, and it could have even been worse. It was such a mismatch that the winning team finally started just punting the ball back every time they got it. I guess the Steelers could do that if it got too bad. Just punt on First Down.

I hope the Steelers keep their foot on the gas the entire way. Losing your QB is a big, big deal but you know what, it happens all the time in our sport, you lose guys. If we can't play better ball then this, then this team needs to be shown what that means. They need to get the piss slapped out of them for four quarters and they need to figure it out. Nobody is coming to call the game for you. There are no Team Moms standing on the sideline, ready to bring you Orange Slices and Juice Boxes for you. This is how it is in this league, in this sport so you better suck it up and play better, play harder. Nobody expects anybody to win a Championship with this team but fans do expect the team to play like they are an NFL team, rather then a traveling Taxi Squad.

Whatever the point spread is take it because the Cowboys have not covered all year.

Cowherd said we should hope for a 45-0 shellacking every week as that might put so much pressure on Jerry, it will force him to make some tough decisions.

Cowturd is right. It's going to take fans tuning out and just stop following the team for Jerry to figure out that just putting butts in the seats and TV ratings staying high is not enough. It's a business, I get it, but it's a business based upon the backs of the Fans and at some point, you better make a better effort than what we've seen for the last 25 years. Make the goal winning, not just making money please. We deserve that. We are a great, great fan base. For years, we were labeled a wine and cheese crowed. We were fair weather, according to much of the rest of the NFL. Well, we've been here 25 years with not much to root for, to be honest. We've seen HOF caliber players play out their entire careers without a Super Bowl or even a Conference Championship Game appearance. The truth of the matter is that this team has not been managed well, over the years. We've done it the way our owner wanted to do it and that has proven to be a fail IMO. I mean, I get it, it's Jerry's team and he can do what he wants but at some point, the Fans have a right to expect progress and at the very least, a run at a championship. If that's not the goal of this ownership, and I mean in more then just words, then it's very reasonable for fans to simply move on. There are consequences for actions and it's the right of the Fan base to have certain expectations IMO.

Rule 17-1-4

The NFL affirms the position that in most circumstances all regular-season and postseason games should be played to their conclusion. [...] If, in the Commissioner’s opinion, it is reasonable to project that the resumption of an interrupted game would not change its ultimate result or adversely affect any other inter-team competitive issue, he is empowered to terminate the game.

Because I think Tomlin is a class guy he will call off the dogs in the 3rd quarter if this things gets into 40-0 type territory. It'll be a great time to get the backups some reps with little danger of losing.

The problem with calling off the dogs is that their 2nd string team will still put a hurting on us......heck if they just run the ball they score 40........
