Does the offensive line really need that much work?

I'm wondering if the O-line has been a product of practice lately. Training camps and practices as of late have been low contact, no pads. With training camps and practices becoming more physical, do you think these guys on the O-line will pick up their game?

I'm a believer in you play how you practice. You can't not practice hard for fear of injury. With the players in the trenches not getting much if any contact during offseason, I think it's had an effect on their play.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see the same O-line next year, and if we do, I hope that the increased physicality brings out the nastiness in all of them.

Not to mention our D-line.

Agree, disagree?

Thoughts, opinions?

Yes Jerry, it needs a ton of work, unless you want to keep going through seasons like this over and over.

Yes. Infact one could go so far as to say Heck YES! and one would not be faulted for using even stronger language then Heck....I know I have in the past about this very topic.

So in a word : YES!

Lol!

Just one offseason I wish we would bite the bullet and try to be less glamorous.

What a perfect offseason to boost our oline for years.

Anyone see the Jets oline last night running the ball in the 2nd half? That's what I want.

I think the Cowboys *MIGHT* be able to get away with keeping Free-Kosier-Gurode but I think that there is no doubt that both Davis and especially Colombo *MUST* be replaced.

As far as the Dline goes, Olshansky really did nothing more than what a backup like Bowen or Hatcher could do. Spears' loss was noticed, but he too can/should be replaced or kept as a backup.

Rebuild the o-line. Free stays, Gurode maybe goes to guard. Everyone else who was starting needs the boot. Get Light and/or Mankins and draft some talent.

Richard Seymour and Ratliff at end with a big cog in the middle on the d-line.

We're not going to get Patrick Peterson in the draft, he's gonna go to high for us. So Nmandi from Oakland since his contract just got voided is sweet.

This way we can focus on o-line and safteies in draft. Defensive line can be taken care of in free agency and so can our corners and LB depth. Offensive line has some good players in FA we can target also.

Again, I am wondering about the CBA's impact to fill any holes in FA.

Wondering if this could be a wasted offseason in regards to the CBA issues.

Minimum two new starter, right side. Maximun everyone to the right of Free.

Keep Free, Kosier, Gurode------

at minimum, if Sam Young isnt ready---Kick L.David out to RT and bring in a right guard from bench or FA.

I think Bigg could give us a servicable year out at RT, got enough feet/Legs and wide body, long arms to shore it up for a time.

They played better later in the season. But it's still needs to be revamped. Especially the right side. Colombo and Davis are not the most athletic of lineman. Davis has a hard time getting to the next level to block linebackers, often times he just whiffs and that guy makes the play or stuffs the hole. When he pulls he often whiffs and doesn't make any blocks. Colombo's lateral quickness is gone. He has a hard time with athletic DE's that make quick change of directions.

Romo needs more time in the pocket without him having to manufacture time by dodging rushers. He needs a clean pocket and time for Austin and Bryant to get down the field.

If we get an athletic guard who can get to the next level, I think it would really help our run game tremendously. Sam Young may be a replacement for Colombo, hopefully with a year of experience and off season conditioning he could be our next RT. Either way we overhaul the right side our OL gets that much better.

but gurode made the pro-bowl :(

So did Ratliff and he didnt have a Pro Bowl year either.

the problem with the oline is that it's old. you can't give people a new attitude that makes them younger.

If we see this same OL next season look for the same result if not worse. Davis and Colombo have to be replaced with a couple of "solid" players for the OL to improve. Colombo has just about had it he can't stay healthy. The OL needs an upgrade in talent.

They should still be good at their age except for Colombo because his body has quit.

I just think they lost the desire to bang heads all week and then do it on Sundays.

Some young hungry guys is what this line needs.

Logan Mankins and draft a tackle - I don't think it matters if he's a LT or RT because Free is very flexible and serviceable at both spots, though I'd prefer a new LT. We don't need pro-bowlers at every position, and with Mankins, the development of Free, and Gurode, we'd have three pro-bowl calibre players. That's enough for me.

Sounds good to me.

No one who has watched any football at all should think that Bigg has the quickness any more to play tackle. Colombo's legs are gone. Bigg is too slow and has never been as physical as a guy that big should be. We MUST replace the right side.

I would try to replace three this year.

In this order:

Colombo (done)
Kosier (FA and will be 33; injured 2 of last 3 years)
Davis (will be 33 and extremely inconsistent; $ 6 million)

It can be done, but 2 is probably what we will get. For a team that has won one playoff game since 1996, I don't see a problem with replacing three if you can find the replacements. It's not like our QB hasn't been getting the day lights beat out of him during two of the past three seasons.

They wouldn't have to replace three if Colombo was replaced after the 2009 season and playoff debacle.

Passing on Andy Levitre and Phil Loadholt wasn't smart drafting, imo. It was pretty bad self scouting and poor planning. Now, all the DE's contracts are up, too.

Lovely...

Edit:

I forgot that the Cowboys dancing rag doll (AKA Igor Olshansky) is under contract.

I'd rather have Spears and keep Bown for the nickel.

You're hired.
