Does the pocket need to be that clean for the offense to succeed?

After skimming through the game (out of market so didn’t get to see it live) I’m surprised at how well our o-line actually did. There were times where Dak could have made himself lunch before having to find a WR. To me I just don’t see what happened yesterday in terms of time to throw and lack of pressure as realistic to continue. Our o-line can/should play better than it did in the first 3 weeks, but things won’t realistically be as smooth as they were yesterday going forward.

So what I’m getting at is, do you think yesterday’s success was due to improved game plan and excecition? Or was a lot of it due to the, at times, ridiculous pocket Dak had to work with? Do you expect to see the offense revert to week 3 if there is pressure on Dak? Or was a corner (hopefully) turned on offense because we did something different?

And this isn’t meant to be negative or Debbie downer thread...honest question on what we expect to see out of the offense going forward.

Dak's "glitch" is getting jittery in a shaky pocket so time will tell if he can get better at that. If not, long season and probably new QB in 2019.

I don’t see protection being that bad overall in the previous games
Dak missed some guys, we got in 3rd and longs
Yesterday we got ahead of the chains and about doubled our 3rd down conversions
Dak still missed some passes in the end zone but hit some big plays
For this offense to succeed, to me it’s about success on 1st and 2nd downs more than protection

For the kind of qb we have: yes.

And even with that good play from the OL you could see his deficiencies. We barly won a game we should have scored 50 in with a good QB.

And now all the Dak hype will start again. From JJ to JG. I dont know if this game will be good for the franchise's future. We need a starting caliber QB if we want to win the game anytime soon.

Dude there were 3 plays where there was a pass in the end zone where the receiver was interfered with with no call. Probably cost us 15 points+.

Detroit couldn't get any pressure especially missing Ansah. It also helped playing at home with crowd noise. That fumble late on the two minute drive would have been disastrous had that been in Seattle last week.

I really don’t want his season to be false gold. Either we suck or we take that next step. Lose the coaches or keep them. Dak our future franchise QB or not.

I agree.

The worst thing is mediocrity and lose out on Herbert and him go to the Giants or something.

Either be really good or really bad. No 7-9 or 9-7 please. (unless 9-7 gets us to the playoffs)

Neither us or the Giants will be in a Position to draft Herbert without giving up the Farm to move up.

The NFCE in total Looks like neither Team will draft Top 5.

We need good protection. We don’t scheme to get receivers open very quickly as if we expect the pocket to breakdown quickly.

Dak lacks pocket presence and holds on to the football for too long which is causing the unnecessary pressure at times. He took at least two sacks yesterday that could have been avoided.

We also dont have a QB who can throw WRs open so we Need a very Long clean pocket to succeed.

What's good about Herbert is he has the ability to buy time and keep his eyes downfield.

You almost have to have that ability now days.

Dak has it somewhat but he's just so conservative that he limits himself.

According to the stats from @percyhoward it seems Dak does great when pressured <40% of the time, but when pressured >40% his QBR drops around 40 points.

We score 41+ if those PIs get called. 41+ points is a lot, regardless of who the QB is, especially against a team with a secondary like the Lions'.

We score 10+ less if we dont get those holding penalties.

But that all is irrelevant. Bad calls happen to both sides. To say our qb is good or he could have done that or this not for that bad calls is just such a boring and - sorry no offense - stupid argument.

A player is what he is. That doesnt depend on the refs.

Yeah, he took a makeable FG into a 15 yard sack at one point
