give us more probablity to trade down, if someone wants to be there? Without a pressing need at any position we are in a better position than 2004 when we traded down. What do you guys think?

i think we have some fairly pressing needs
our wr's are getting old
we have a 31 yr old, and a 34 yr old cb, and both backups are f.a.'s next year
flo is a f.a. next year
we need to fix atleast two of those in this draft and the quality at 22 is better than lower. i might trade down in rnd 2 for a guy like ramirez and pick up another pick but i stay at 22 and take a cb or wr. i prefer a cb but i could live with bowe or meachum. but we have a big problem coming soon at cb and we need to get it fixed

imo, Dallas should trade UP and draft Peterson

enough of this quantity over quality crap.

I think the talent between 23 and say 43, lends as much credence to trading down as the Hamlin signing, but yes, signing both Hamlin and Davis allosw us to do what we want and trading down is a wise move IMO.

I believe so. Even thought I didn't think we'd draft a FS anyway, but it still pretty much takes that option off the table.

So we should trade away our draft, to get another injury prone back, that has shown flashes of being great?

i thought we already had one of those on the roster people complain about

I'm not against that either, if he begins to fall. The problem with that is JJ would almost certainly have to be involved if you don't want to give away your day 1 draft for 1 player. Finding someone willing to trade down that far for JJ, our #1 and say our 3rd won't be a piece of cake. Most teams in that 7-12 area would rather have the huge upside player like Willis, Brown, Landry etc.

I'm not too interested in trading away all of our picks to move up and get an injury prone tailback, but that's just me. I would, however, be interested in positioning ourselves to get Lynch if we could package JJ. Interested, but not overwhelmingly so.

The only way we trade up for Peterson would be if JJ believed he's the one player we need to get to/win the SB like Cowboys did with Dorsett back in the 70s. But the reality is that we have needs that Peterson can't help. Last time I checked Peterson can't bring consistent pressure on the QB, can't defend against the pass nor stop opponent's running game. He also can't upgrade our OL nor help our WRs get younger.

Also let's look at what it would take for us to move up from #22 to say #4. The #4 draft value is 1,800 points; our #22 draft value pick is worth 780 for a difference of 820 points (if team would even settle for that). So,

Points Needed: 1800
1. must give up our #1 pick = 780 points
2. JJ == 300 points
3. 2nd round pick = 370 points
Total so far 1450
Points still needed 350

4. 2nd round pick in 08 if we
pick at 22 is 350

Above is minimum what we'd need give up and frankly if I had the #4th pick in the draft I would ask for more then above. So let's be realistic when discussing what it would take for us to move up.

Two guys I would be willing to trade up for. Calvin Johnson and I would trade this years and next years #1s and next years number 2 for him. He is THAT good.

The other guy would be Adrian Peterson but I would only go as high as top 10 and only give up this years #1 and 3 this year. It won't happen because it would take more than that but that's all I would do.

I would love to see us get a guy like Joe Staley however in round 2. From what I hear, he is moving up draft boards.

If anything we should be looking to move up. We have too many draft picks as it is, there's no way all of them can make our roster. Why not move up a few spots and get the guys you really like? I'm not saying we should trade our draft away for a chance at a guy like Petterson, but if a guy they like is probably going to go a few picks before us, why not move up and make sure we get him?

The signings of Hamlin and Davis give this team a lot of options.

How come when we pick top 12 the talent is going thru the first 15 picks and bad in the lower 1st, but when we pick at 22 their alot of talent and the late 1st and 2nd round...... if that's the case why don't the top half of the 1st round trade out and take the value in the laters rounds, why!!!!!!!!!!!!

because the best talent with the least amount of bust comes in the early part, therefore if we can trade up for a player on the team and our 1st and a second I'm all for it... and yes I would be thrilled to get Peterson...

Getting peterson would make up for not getting Moss in 98

Drafting Ellis over Moss was a great decision then and even better now.

Now that Hamlin has been signed, our need for a safety is not as pressing as before. That doesn't necessarily mean that I think that Hamlin will be the cure-all to our safety concerns, but it does lessen the need at least in the early rounds in the draft. I could see us now going for either a run stuffing DT, a pass rusher, WR, or a CB. "Hopefully" we will be able to better utilize the pass rushing abilities of one of our young DL/LB who is already with us once Phillips more aggessive style of pass rushing is implemented. Considering the age of both Owens and Glenn, and that behind them, we basically have young guys with some degree of potential, yet they are a long way from being proven/established players, I wouldn't mind taking a WR with an early round pick because of that. We could also make good use of an early round pick with a run stuffer as well, so if there might be a WR or a run stuffer who, for whatever slips, then that would be my pick. Of course "where" we pick will be a factor as well. If we are able to find a team who wants to move up into our spot at 22, then make the trade to move down in order to pick up extra pick(s) so that we might be able to turn around and use the pick(s) to move up again in another round. Just some rambling and some incoherent babble/chatter on my part, but....isn't this the time of the year for that sort of thing anyway? (grins...)
