Does this remind you of the "Switzer Era"?

He inherits a very talented team and ultimately takes them to the top, but once his persona settles in with the team...we all know what happened...

Barry Switzer is a winner and has won everywhere he has gone.

Wade Phillips is not a winner and that is not my opinion that is a fact.

And no, this does not remind me of the Switzer Era. Switzer's teams had problems off the field, we have problem off of it.

At least he got us our "thumb" Super Bowl. Wade, OTOH...one minute we were the league's powerhouse, the next the biggest laughing stock in the league.

Yep. I was not particularly fond of Parcells (major understatement)...BUT I do recognize that fact that he has brought a professional attitude into all the organizations he's worked for.

I thought Phillips was the perfect guy for LAST year...but just as with Switzer, after the team has had a tough coach, with each year that passes, the discipline slides under the more laid back coach.

I didn't expect it to happen this quickly. The team had already lost it's edge by December of last year.

Problem is, the team was just as sloppy, dumb, made just as many penalties under Parcells.

So, what's the answer?

Me thinks some of the blame still lies with the very involved uh, GM.

That team won Super Bowls. This team has never even won a playoff game.

It seems like people forget that this supposedly supremely talented team never won more than 10 games under Bill and never won a playoff game.

True, but I wonder what would've happened if Bill had stayed around...

Funny you mention Switzer's tenure. I've seen quite a few on here today comparing this to the Campo years but yesterday I was thinking of how this rapidly spiraling season actually is reminding me a bit of '97. Terrific opening win on the road, miracle win against the Eagles at home in Week 2, a new receiving threat opposite our # 1 that would allegedly revitalize the offense (Anthony Miller), and a rapid downward descent after about Week 4. While that season was even more scary given the fact that all of the Triplets were healthy for the full 16 and we actually went 6-10 :)eek: ), this campaign has potential to be close to the same degree of ineptitude.

Actually-Aikman had a back injury late that season. I remember the TN TGiving game...his passes were just errant all over the place, his back was just killing him.

As for the cracks falling apart that year...I saw shades of it in '96. Remember how we were one of the worst offensive redzone teams that year. We lost our discipline that year as well.

You're right, and I believe his back was even worse towards the end of '98, especially given that he was almost short-hopping every pass to his receivers in the Cardinals wild-card game that year.

I recall the red zone problems in '96, my goodness was that harped upon by everyone, although rightfully so.

Why can't anyone admit we WEREN'T all that great under Parcells?

This team he supposedly "built" went 10-6, 6-10, 9-7, and 9-7 while going 0-2 in the playoffs.

The team Jimmy "built" went 1-15, 7-9, 11-5, 12-4, and 12-4 while going 7-1 in the playoffs with TWO Super Bowls.

Say all you want that "the game passed by Parcells", "he was holding alot of things back", etc, etc...the records DON'T LIE.
